## Frequently Asked Questions
### General
**Q: What is Wakey?**
A: Wakey is a Wake-on-LAN app that lets you wake up PCs and servers on your local network from your phone. Save your devices once, then wake them anytime with one tap.
**Q: What platforms does Wakey support?**
A: Wakey is available on iOS and Android.
**Q: Do I need an account to use Wakey?**
A: No. Wakey does not require account registration or login.
---
### Device Setup
**Q: How do I add a device?**
A: On the **All Devices** screen, tap **Add Device**, then enter your device details (name, MAC address, IP/broadcast address, and port). Save it, and it will appear in your list.
**Q: Which details are required for Wake-on-LAN?**
A: At minimum, a valid **MAC address** is required. In most setups, you should also provide the correct **broadcast address** and **port** (commonly port 9).
**Q: What is SecureOn password?**
A: SecureOn is an optional Wake-on-LAN password supported by some network adapters/motherboards. Leave it empty unless your target device is configured to require it.
---
### Waking Devices
**Q: How do I wake a device?**
A: From **All Devices** (or a group), tap the **Wake** button on the target device card.
**Q: Why does wake fail?**
A: Common causes include:
- Wake-on-LAN not enabled in BIOS/UEFI.
- Wake settings not enabled in the operating system/network adapter.
- Wrong MAC address, broadcast address, or port.
- Phone and target device not on the same reachable network.
- Router/AP isolation, firewall rules, or VPN/network segmentation blocking packets.
**Q: Can I wake multiple devices?**
A: Yes. If devices are organized in a group, use the group screen’s wake-all action.
---
### Groups
**Q: What are groups for?**
A: Groups help you organize devices (for example: Home, Office, Servers) and make it easier to wake related devices quickly.
**Q: Can I rename or delete a group?**
A: Yes. Open the group screen and use the menu options to edit or delete the group.
---
### Home Screen Widgets
**Q: Does Wakey support widgets?**
A: Yes. You can add a Wakey home screen widget for quick wake actions without opening the app first.
**Q: How do I configure a widget?**
A: Add the Wakey widget from your phone’s widget picker, then follow the setup flow in-app to choose what that widget controls.
**Q: Why is my widget not updating?**
A: Make sure background updates/battery optimizations are not restricting the app, and confirm your widget has been configured correctly.
---
### Import / Export
**Q: Can I import or export devices?**
A: Yes. Wakey supports CSV import/export so you can back up and move device lists between devices.
**Q: Why did import fail?**
A: Check CSV format and required fields (especially MAC address). Invalid rows may be skipped.
---
### Troubleshooting
**Q: The app cannot detect online/offline status correctly.**
A: Status checks depend on network conditions and your selected check method. Some devices block ping or specific ports, which can appear as offline.
**Q: Is internet required to use Wakey?**
A: Basic Wake-on-LAN works on local network connectivity. Internet is not required for local wake actions.
**Q: Can Wakey wake devices over the internet?**
A: Wakey is designed for local-network Wake-on-LAN workflows. Internet/WAN wake depends on advanced router and network configuration.
