In this project I did some cyber security training and got my certificate. I did this so that i could then find two cyber attacks in the news and decide if they are credible by looking at the source.
FBI Warns Gmail, Outlook Users Of $100 Government Emergency Data Email Hack
This was a phishing attack that uses compromised US and foreign government emails to use fraudulent emergency data requests. They request information to be supplied immediately by a business while bypassing additional reviews to request legitimacy. then they would sell the emails with instructions on using them for emergency data requests. Once they are in they would use it for espionage, data extortion and ransomware.

HHS settles 2 ransomware investigations as attacks rise
This security problem has to do with the healthcare system and not protecting there patients information. HHS office for civil rights settled 2 investigations on HIPPAA violations following ransomware attacks. while Plastic Surgery Associates of South Dakota payed $500,000 to OCR after the agency found multiple potential violations. The provider didn't conduct analysis to find risks or put in place security measures or put in place policies to address security incidents. Federal regulators are now focusing on healthcare cybersecurity after a rise of growing threats.

During this project i learned that there are many more cyber security attacks then i thought. They also like to target health care system to get sensitive information from patients. Another big one is to get control of government accounts for espionage. I always knew there was that threat but I never realized how often and how big they really are. I also took a cyber security test to earn my certificate and I do feel i am better off with the knowledge i gained from that. I recommend anyone that uses the internet to learn more about cyber security to protect yourself.
