Lifeguarding is the main focus at Waikanae SLSC, providing a volunteer lifeguarding service to the Gisborne community and visitors by patrolling Waikanae beach from Labour weekend through until Easter weekend. As the saying goes, prevention is better than a cure so we aim to recognise potential hazards and react accordingly to avoid rescue action.

Anyone is welcome to join our club and, once they are 14 years old, become a lifeguard. The qualification is achievable, the process is empowering and the outcomes are lifelong.

To be a qualified lifeguard, you need to be 14 years or older and pass your Surf Lifeguard award exam.
