Dr. Wagner is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University at Albany.
She received her PhD in Neuroscience from Michigan State University, and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroendocrinology at Rutgers University.
She was a Visiting Assistant Professor at UMASS Amherst for several years before joining the UAlbany faculty in the Behavioral Neuroscience Division of Psychology in 2001. Christine’s research uses rodent models to investigate the role of progesterone receptors in the normal development of reproductive and neuroendocrine function, as well as in the development of neural pathways underlying complex cognitive behaviors.
Most recently, Christine has used rodent models to investigate the potential neurodevelopmental and behavioral outcomes of a synthetic progestin in clinical use for the prevention of premature birth. Plans are underway to bring this research to the translational level by examining neurocognitive outcomes in children whose mother’s received progestin during pregnancy.
Christine has received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and for Excellence in Academic Service. Christine’s research has been funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Science Foundation, and March of Dimes Foundation for Birth Defects.
