Dr. Wageesh Mishra is an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru. He earned his Ph.D. in solar and heliospheric physics from the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Udaipur Solar Observatory, India.
Before joining IIA as a faculty member, Dr. Mishra held post-doctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany and the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He was also a Visiting Researcher at George Mason University (GMU), Virginia, USA.
Dr. Mishra is also a science team member for the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) payload onboard the Aditya-L1, India’s first dedicated solar mission launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in September 2023.
He has been recognized with prestigious awards and honors, including the Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc), the NASI-Platinum Jubilee Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and the President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) fellowship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Dr. Mishra has authored numerous research articles in esteemed international journals such as The Astrophysical Journal (ApJ), Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS), Astronomy and Astrophysics (A&A), and Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR). He actively contributes to the scientific community as a referee for several international journals. He also holds the position of Review Editor for the Frontiers in Astrophysics and Space Science journal. He has delivered invited talks at national and international conferences and chaired several scientific sessions.
His primary research interests are coronal mass ejections (CMEs), solar wind, MHD shocks, heliosphere, space weather, and stellar activity. As a part of his hobby, he enjoys reading Hindi literature and history, practicing yoga, and participating in science outreach activities.
