This page details the Player Settings for the Android platform. For a description of the general Player settings, refer to Player SettingsSettings that let you set various player-specific options for the final game built by Unity. More info

See in Glossary.

When I select the option to use External player a pop message appears saying "No Player, it doesn't appear you have a video capable app installed. This option requires you to install a 3rd party app for playing video content." Well I have VLC installed, and MX player. What am I missing here? When I sideload the Android Mobile version of this app then the option to choose VLC is available, but not in the Android TV client. Is this a bug? Same thing happens on Sony TV and two generations of Nvidia Shield.

When clicking on an android-authorized subfolder of internal storage, the black player UX will still display "Storage" as the "permission granted", when in reality only a subfolder of it was allowed. You can directly see that when going to the "folders" tab in Black player and you'll see that it only has the root of the phone, with the database cache indicating how many songs there, but if you click it it will say "empty".

It seems the "scan" feature of black player is so broken by the glitch, that even reading a file from a file explorer, with the file located inside the allowed storage folder, will only display the name of the song, but Black player won't do anything if you press "start".

I've also tried reading the new song from a different player app which still had the scan permissions (VLC). I though this would update the "android standard library", whatever the hell hides behind this name. Well it did not change anything.

I think it all boils down to the fact that, even if the android standard library is updated, Blackplayer's internal library cannot update at all, and therefore it cannot even pronounce the path to a new song it would like to access.

By the way, why I use Black player (among other reasons): you have a setting that says "ignore the track date stamp", which replaces it by "date added to database". This is Incredibly, tremendously useful and I haven't found other free apps, which can read Opus files, which can do it. I want to listen to _music I just discovered_ in the order I discovered them! You worked around the fact that Android doesn't seem to expose the date a file was added to the filesystem to the apps for some reason.

Hi there, I'm using 4.13 and can't figure out a way to play video in android device. I have coded all the stuff and video plays perfectly in editor. But I see jus black on the device when exported. I'm very much confused searching about it cuz...

I want to know if it is faster to load and play a small wav than a small mp3 file on android media player. The wavs are about 30 KB and the same files as mp3s are about 20 kb. The mp3s have the advantage to save resource space. The sound files have to be played with split second timing.

Even the weakest android devices have ample computing power to play an mp3, and probably have hardware acceleration for it as well. The real question is the setup overhead for playing a wav vs. playing an mp3, which should be fairly easy to measure programmatically.

I'm a little surprised you're getting such a poor compression ratio with mp3. Even lossless compression algorithms tend to get a 2:1 compression ratio with wav. Given that an android device probably isn't hooked up to audiophile-quality speakers, you should be able to get away with 64 kbit/s mono mp3 compression, or even lower. If you can get the file size under 4K, it'll fit in a single memory page, which is about as low as you can get for OS overhead.

50 GB worth of MP3s in /sdcard/MusicI can see all those files in various file browsing apps and terminal emulators but no music player app can see them. I tried three different players already. They can see music files in Download directory but not in Music. There was a .nomedia file in there but I deleted it days ago and re-scanned media multiple times and rebooted multiple times.I had all this music in the same location on my last phone Pixel 3 Android 9 but then got a new phone Pixel 5 Android 11, moved all the files onto it, just via file copy from Windows, but player apps can't see them. It's almost as if that .nomedia file was still in there, totally invisible to me.

Can someone recommend an Android music player that recognizes MP3Tag's Genre multi-tag format? For example: If an album that has a Genre tag like 'Classical\Opera' I want the album to show up in the Classical Genre list and the Opera Genre list.

Not, not really. You probably find this character in a column of the files list.

Have a look at the definition for "value" and you will probably see something

$meta_sep(genre,\\)

which means that the \\ are defined as separating characters but you could just as well take any other character. Foobar, I think, takes the semicolon as separator

The point I try to make: as there as so few players that actually the real multi-value fields, there are some players that interpret special characters in a single-value field as separator and display the items separated like that as individual items.

I know that e.g. WMP use the semicolon in ARTIST, GENRE, ALBUMARTIST and COMPOSER to create individual entries.

E.g. Stock; Aitken; Waterman would show an entry under A for Aitken, one under S for Stock and one under W for Waterman.

And all this without a multi-value field.

So it could be that there are other players around that do it like that.

And whatever the implementation would be: MP3tag can help you to set the right format.

I have recently installed the Xibo player (APK) from on my Smart Android TV. I have entered my license number and the player works fine when I find and launch it. However, I am having trouble finding a way to start the Xibo player automatically when the TV starts up.

General problem, i am unable to play music from the owncloud sync folder, because no music was found. When i take a look with a file explorer, the data is there.

I tried it with different music players wich are able to work with local files, but none see more than

I dont understand, when i download a mp3 from my owncloud instance, i can choose the download folder an play it from there, but i can only choose the top owncloud folder, but nothing within. Looks like my player is able to play local files, but cant read in the owncloud sync folder

After searching music apps who can access this files i see the only reason to make no update looks like to sell another music app who can do this (with money or ads or stealing my data). No functional stock music player on android, welcome back to the dark age of the waybearer. Thank you google that i have to pay to get access to my music+.

At this point, because i fdroid, i have to steal a player or go back to a native mp3player.

Hi, everyone!

Thanks for posting your experiences. We understand how frustrating this issue can be and we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

We'd like to confirm that Pandora playing audible music at restart has been resolved with the release of 2308.1.1. This release is available to all Android listeners. If you haven't yet updated, please see the steps below to update to the latest version.

On a separate, but related note, we are aware of an issue where the player notification may appear even when the app is not open. We'd like to clarify that the player notification is a separate issue from the music audible playing from above. We'd like to stress that while the player notification may appear, the Pandora app may not be open or playing music.

If you're experiencing the player notification, we're happy to pass this along to our engineering team who are investigating this problem.

Please let us know the following information:

In the meantime, after further investigation, we've found a forum on the Samsung Community where users were having a similar issue with the player notification. This may be a common issue among Samsung users. Some users were able to resolve this issue by adjusting their notification settings on their Samsung. You can view the solution by visiting the Samsung Community to see if these changes will help you.

My screenshot looks exactly like Lost-In-Sedona's on the bottom. To cope until it gets fixed, I have the notification minimized. It's not big anymore and not a pop up on the top part of my screen where notification icons would be but it's still there in the notification screen. Has someone been able to recieve my android info from the email? As I had mentioned previously, they directed me back to here.
