Lamont Peak
Ascent of Lamont Peak (Southwest Ridge, class 2), with Claire Wacziarg, March 26, 2018.
Timeline:
March 25, 2018. Claire and I took a detour on our way to Mammoth Lakes to climb Lamont Peak. We left the trailhead on Canebrake Road at 10:17 am and proceeded at a slow but regular pace up the use trail that leads to the summit. About 1/3 of a mile from the top it is necessary to hike down to a saddle and then back up toward the summit blocks. On the ridge we witnessed "snowfall" from thawing ice and snow accumulated on tree branches, a lovely sight. We arrived on the summit at 12:05 under a frigid wind, which kept us from hanging around too long. The views toward Owens Peak and Spanish Needle (SE), Canebrake Flat (SW), the Domeland Wilderness (NW) and Olancha Peak (N) were excellent. After some photos and a look at the summit register, we departed the summit at 12:20. We descended to the saddle and found a nice sheltered spot for lunch. We left our lunch spot at 13:10 and were back at the car at 14:07. We were in Mammoth Lakes around 17:30. (A 3:50 hour day).
