Norman Clyde Peak
Failed ascent of Norman Clyde Peak (Twilight Pillar, III 5.9), with Matthew Fienup, September 28, 2006
Timeline:
September 27, 2006. We started hiking in the mid-morning and reached camp near a tarn below Middle Palisade around 17:00.
September 28, 2006. We left camp at 5:30, ascended a pitch of loose 5.7 (which I led) to lower angle class 3-4 terrain to the base of the Twilight Pillar, but it took longer than anticipated to reach the base of the route. Facing 5 hard pitches of climbing and a long descent we determined that we would not have enough time to complete the climb, and decide to abandon the attempt.
September 28, 2006. We went rock climbing at Owens River Gorge and then went home.
