Mission, Vision, and Core Values
For Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) Standard 1, I chose to include the Manifesto assignment from the final unit of ED624 Organizational Leadership as it demonstrates my ability to develop and clearly articulate a mission statement which promotes student achievement based on my commitment to child-centered learning and high expectations.
Ethical and Professional Norms
For Standard 2 , I chose to include a professional development presentation about ethical practices in decision making I created during the final unit of ED636 Ethics, Policy, and Professional Development. It demonstrates my ability to provide ongoing moral direction, promoting professional norms of continuous learning, responsibility, and professional behavior of all staff members with the ultimate goal of supporting student success.
Equity and Cultural Responsiveness
For PSEL Standard 3, I chose to include a professional development presentation I created which is focused on the importance of the presence of multicultural texts in the classroom from ED636 Ethics, Policy, and Professional Development. It demonstrates my ability to act with cultural responsiveness in the implicit bias that exists in instructional design, resource building, and practice. Helping to develop a practice of confronting and altering educational practices in a mindful and equitable manner will provide a community of safety and well-being for all students.
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
For Standard 4, I chose to include the Integrated Lesson Plan from ED616 Curriculum Development and Evaluation because it demonstrates my ability to collaborate with colleagues in the alignment of standards and assessment to create relevant learning that is rigorous and exciting for students and educators.
Community of Care and Support for Students
For PSEL Standard 5, I chose to include the Mind Up! Brain-Focused Strategies for Learning and Living slides presentation that I created, implemented, and shared as it demonstrates my ability to identify a social and emotional need for my community of students, collaborate with colleagues to find a possible resource, and create resources to support whole-student development.
Professional Capacity of School Personnel
For PSEL Standard 6, I chose to include the Data Analysis Professional Development presentation from ED618 Instructional Leadership and Student Academic Achievement because it is one example of my ability to create engaging and ongoing job-embedded, standards-based professional learning to build leadership capacity within the organization and promote professional learning of staff with the ultimate goal of increasing student achievement.
Professional Community for Teachers and Staff
For PSEL Standard 7, I chose to include a presentation I created and presented to the administration of my school based on stakeholder survey data from ED634 School Climate and School Improvement because it demonstrates my ability to establish a community of trust between myself and participating staff and students, synthesize collected data to communicate strengths and areas for needed growth, and design creative faculty-implementation strategies of strategies to address perceived challenges. Understanding that in order for all staff to commit to the mission, vision, and core values, they have to be united in their community, gathering data on climate is the first step in making either incremental or transformational changes.
Meaningful Engagement of Families and Community
For Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL) Standard 8, I chose to include a professional development presentation I created about the importance of clear communications practices from ED610 Communication and Community Relations because it demonstrates my understanding of the importance of productive two-way collaborations and relationships that must exist between schools and parents/communities in order for students to maximize their academic potential. Building the communication skills of the staff is important for the internal function of the school, but supporting student learning outside of the classroom takes partnerships that come with intention and hard work.
Operations Management
For PSEL Standard 9, I chose to include a Division Budget Report I created from the analysis and synthesis of data and resources gathered from a single year in my division from ED625 Human Resources and Finance. It demonstrates my ability to analyze a fiscal plan for a division and shows my understanding of local, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations as they promote student success. This presentation also demonstrates my ability to build relationships with central office staff members responsible for operations management within my division.
School Improvement
For PSEL Standard 10 , I chose to include a School Improvement Plan from the final unit of ED634 School Climate and School Improvement because it demonstrates my ability to create a strategic plan to address needs founded through stakeholder climate surveys. Ideally, this type of plan would not be done alone, but with a team of stakeholders to best engage the community and those most affected by transformational and/or incremental changes.
