I try to learn a few students' names each day, there's a lot of students but I try. I also do my best to smile and say "HI" to everyone I pass in the cafe, in the halls or anywhere on campus. I like smiling and saying "hi" to people. I like to think it may make their day better.
What is something that this generation has that you would have loved having as a high school student?
I would have liked to have high the high definition TV's. I enjoy sports and movies and the picture quality back then was not great. Probably why I wear glasses now.
Can you tell us about one of your favorite high school memories?
I went to Xaverian Brothers HS, an all-boy Catholic HS. I had some great inspirational teachers, I had great moments in sports but my favorite memories that came out of HS were making memories with the friends I made and still have. Classmates for 4 years, Brothers for life!
If you could be transported to any place in the world right now- where would that be?
I prefer warm weather, and with winter coming, I would want somewhere tropical. If I had to choose 1 place it would be Hawaii
What is the best advice you ever received?
"Never settle"... Never accept "just OK", never say "I guess that'll do", never "wish" for something, go get it... Make, whatever you want or want to do, the best it can be for you. I'm a very competitive person so this is always a challenge for me, but I try.
My other favorite advice is "Nothin' left to do but smile, smile, smile..."
What makes you happy?
Aside from family and friends. Live music. You can't wipe the smile off my face when I am at a concert. It can be in a small bar with 25 people or a massive stadium with 70000 people. Live music is what I missed most during the pandemic. Music makes my mood!
Tell us one thing about your job that would surprise us.
I knew that I wanted to be in education, but I thought that I would be an English teacher my entire career. I actually never wanted to be an administrator. 😊
What is something that this generation has that you would have loved having as a high school student?
I wrote out all my papers on a typewriter which is such a tedious process. I would have loved to have a computer as a student because it would have saved me a lot of time and several bottles of whiteout liquid!
Can you tell us about one of your favorite high school memories?
My favorite high school memories are all associated with playing sports. One incident still just cracks me up. During a softball practice, my sister and I were in the outfield. We were very engaged in conversation while the infield was completing drills. The coach, a bit irritated with our tête-à-tête, hit a fly ball at my sister. He shouted for us to pay attention, but too late. The ball clonked my sister right on the head.
If you could be transported to any place in the world right now- where would that be?
While autumn in New England is absolutely a beautiful time of the year, I would love to be on a beach in The Virgin Islands. Nothing is better than that view!
What is the best advice you ever received?
It’s important to always be yourself! A student said this to me when I was transitioning from teacher to administrator and I have never forgotten it. It has helped me to lead from my heart.
What makes you happy?
I love my job. And I love helping other people! These are things that make me happy.
