Privacy Policy — w3 Schools app
Your privacy comes first
No account. No sign-in. No personal information is collected by w3 Schools app from you as an app user.
Educational content, learning progress, bookmarks, and app preferences you manage are stored locally on your device. This page explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.
1. Our Commitment to Privacy
w3 Schools app is built to help you learn programming and technology with confidence. We designed this app so you can access tutorials, code examples, quizzes, learning dashboards, bookmarks, and offline downloads without creating an account, without signing in, and without sharing your personal contact details with us. Protecting your privacy is a core principle of this product.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following from you as an app user:
Your name
Your phone number
Your email address
Your home or mailing address
Your date of birth
Government identifiers (SSN, ID numbers, etc.)
Photos, contacts, or camera data
Precise GPS location
No sign-up, login, OTP verification, email verification, social login, or registration is ever required to use the app.
3. Information Stored On Your Device
To power your learning experience, w3 Schools app stores the following locally on your device only (Room database and DataStore preferences):
Bookmarks (saved tutorials, lessons, and code examples)
Lesson progress and completion status
Recently viewed tutorials and lessons
Quiz scores, results, and performance history
Downloaded content for offline access
Favorite code examples
Learning streak and activity records
App settings (dark/light theme, font size, language preference, and notification settings)
This information is not uploaded to our servers and is not linked to your identity as an app user. Learning records you create are data you choose to keep on your device — we do not receive them as personal user profile data.
4. Offline-First Design
w3 Schools app is designed for offline-first learning. All core features — including tutorials, lessons, code examples, quizzes, bookmarks, downloads, progress tracking, and the learning dashboard — work entirely on your device without sending your learning data to external servers.
An internet connection is required to load advertisements through Google AdMob. Educational content included in the app is available immediately without any online account. You may also use the internet when you choose to open external links (such as feedback email or legal pages).
5. Downloads and Shared Content
When you download lessons or content for offline use, those files are saved locally on your device. If you share code examples or learning content through your device's standard share sheet, that sharing is handled by your device — we do not receive copies of shared content unless you explicitly send it to us. You are responsible for keeping any exported or shared learning materials secure.
6. Advertising (Google AdMob)
We use Google AdMob to display advertisements inside w3 Schools app. AdMob is a third-party advertising service operated by Google LLC, and it is the only third-party advertising service integrated into this app.
Types of ads shown:
Banner ads — displayed at the bottom of app screens
Interstitial ads — full-screen ads shown when you open a category or switch between bottom navigation tabs
To serve ads, measure performance, and prevent fraud, Google AdMob and its advertising partners may collect and process:
Your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID)
General device information (device model, OS version, language, screen size)
Coarse, non-precise location derived from your IP address
Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, and views)
This information is collected by Google and its partners, not directly by us. It is governed by Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
You can control personalized advertising on your device: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads → Reset or delete advertising ID / opt out of personalized ads.
7. Cookies and Tracking
The app itself does not use browser cookies. Google AdMob uses SDK-level identifiers and similar technologies for ad delivery, frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention, as described in the Advertising section above. We do not operate our own cross-app tracking or analytics SDK separate from AdMob.
8. Network and Permissions
The app requests only the permissions it needs to function:
Internet access — required to load advertisements and optional external links
Network state — required for reliable ad delivery
Advertising ID (Android 13+) — used by Google AdMob when ads are enabled
We do not request access to contacts, photos, camera, calendar, SMS, microphone, biometric authentication, or precise location.
9. Data Security
Because we do not collect personal information or account credentials from you as an app user, there is no personal login profile that can be compromised on our servers. Your bookmarks, quiz results, lesson progress, and preferences remain on your device unless you explicitly share content outside the app.
App preferences are stored using DataStore on your device. You can clear all locally stored data at any time through your device settings.
10. Children's Privacy
This app is intended for learners of all ages who want to study programming and technology. It is designed as an educational tool and does not require personal information from children or adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
11. Your Choices and Rights
Because we do not collect identifying information about you as an app user, there is no personal account or profile to delete on our side. You can fully reset your app data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage:
Settings → Apps → w3 Schools app → Storage → Clear storage
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored bookmarks, progress, quiz results, downloads, and preferences.
12. Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be available within the app on this screen. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact Us
