Art History Methods

HELLO & WELCOME!

This site was created to point you to relevant resources for 190W: Art History Methods (Winter 2023) with Professor Jung. This course surveys major approaches and methodologies in art history to guide students to analyze form, draw meanings from signs, situate the artwork in the given social and political contexts, and examine the conditions by which the figure of the author emerges and his/her/their relationship to art is formed. This guide points you to excellent information sources and tools to explore these methodologies further and find secondary sources to engage with them.

I am a first-gen college graduate, and I moved to California from Canada in 2019. Before university, I went to college and initially had a difficult time transitioning to academia, often feeling overwhelmed and left behind. So, for me, the best part of my job is helping students feel included and a part of the academic and UCI community, and of course to find good quality resources! I work with students and faculty in Art History, Visual Studies, Art, and Film Studies so I do get quite busy. But no question is silly, and I'm here to help make the research process a little less stressful - maybe even fun!

To connect to library resources from off campus, the VPN (virtual private network) is required. For more information, visit: https://www.lib.uci.edu/connect.
