Published by Singapore College of Insurance (March 2026)
This book covers technical accounting matters in (re)insurance. Chapter 1 discusses the conceptual and legal principles in (re)insurance, uses of (re)insurance in the private and public sectors, and traditional and non-traditional arrangements in the industry. Chapter 2 describes premiums, losses, sessions and retentions, and reinsurance programs. Chapters 3 and 4 are for an in-depth examination of the account matters in proportional and nonproportional (excess-of-loss) reinsurance. Chapter 5 describes technical issues in managing losses and retentions in reinsurance. Chapter 6 is for financial matters and regulation, followed by financial and operational performance analysis (with cases) of (re)insurance companies. Chapter 7 is a short essay about "Society, the Modern Economy, the Environment, and Insurance and Reinsurance."
Michael Morrissey (former president & CEO, the International Insurance Society). This book “is the most comprehensive and lucid treatment of reinsurance I've yet seen. It offers a thorough understanding of its functions, limitations, and role in this rapidly evolving industry. This tour de force offers not only detailed examples of how reinsurance policies and programs work but, perhaps surprisingly for an academic publication, some truly thought-provoking insights into the role of insurance and reinsurance in the modern economy.”
Karel van Hulle (former Head of Insurance and Pensions, European Commission, and former member of the Technical Committee of the IAIS). "This book is long overdue... and is very complete and translates the technical language of reinsurance into understandable messages...."
James Vickers (Retired, Gallagher Re International). "An invaluable and practical guide to technical reinsurance accounts for professionals at an intermediate and advanced level, filling a gap in the available reinsurance educational literature.”
