Experimental Setup
We initially started working on laser spot welding, investigating welding at different laser powers and irradiation durations. Previous research showed that in battery cells, laser spot welding is better than other techniques such as resistance and ultrasonic spot welding, as it provides lower contact resistance and higher joint strength. Since soldering requires similar qualities, I wondered why not use laser for soldering?
Comparison of Heat Affected Zone
We experimented with laser soldering at different powers and irradiation times to find the optimum conditions. It was observed that laser-soldered PCBs had shorter processing times and smaller heat-affected zones, resulting in less temperature load on the components.
