ArcPro Install Instructions

Before installing, please review the system requirements and run Esri's Can You Run It? tool to verify that the computer on which you are installing it meets the minimum requirements. While ArcGIS Pro requires a Windows operating system, it can be installed on a Mac in a virtual machine environment by using software such as Boot Camp or Parallels.

1) Request a Vanderbilt Organization ESRI account by filling out this form. https://bit.ly/2LD6ff6

Login to ArcGIS Online with your Vanderbilt University Organizational (make sure you have accepted the invitation to join and completed setting up your organizational account.)

2) Click your account name in the top-right corner and then click My settings

3) Click Licenses on the left of the page.

4) Scroll down to ArcGIS Pro and click the Download button on the right.

5) Select the English version and then click Download. Follow the installation steps or see the detailed install steps here.

6) To start using ArcGIS Pro, you will need to provide your ArcGIS Online login information.



ArcGIS Online Install Instructions


  1. Request a Vanderbilt Organization ESRI account by filling out this form. https://bit.ly/2LD6ff6

  2. You will be sent an invitation from ESRI. Once you accept that invitation, follow the instructions provided to complete the account setup.

  3. Open a web browser and navigate to https://arcgis.com. Once on the page, click the Sign In button in the top right of the page.


QGIS Install Instructions

QGIS is free and open-source software, which means you can download a copy for your own computer and be up and running within just a few minutes. Installers for Windows, Mac, Linux are available from the official QGIS website

Windows users have the option of installing from the OSGeo4W Network Installer or the QGIS Standalone Installer:

  • Standalone installer -- recommended for new users

  • OSGeo4W installer -- for more advanced users, it provides a way to upgrade QGIS to newer versions as they become available and also provides access to other open-source geospatial software

Trouble with Mac install? Do this:

Go to the apple icon on the top left corner --> go to system preferences --> QGIS open anyway
