What backup image have you downloaded exactly buddy???, this will make it a lot easier to find out what the password is, any of the backups posted on here by the Linuxsat team will have the passwords stated in the post that contains the backup file.

Hey all, has anyone successfully rooted their Duo 2 yet? It didn't take long for people to root the first gens, but I haven't seen any guides or even any threads anywhere for anyone even attempting rooting a 2. I haven't tried it myself yet, I know the Duo 1 was a pain with having to use specific versions of Magisk and such and then manually getting the boot.img file from the Surface recovery image from Microsoft.

In general you need to flash the box with a new image (what you call usb update) whenever there are significant OS or system updates that can not be installed using the standard incremental update via the menu. If possible we try to limit that to an OpenPLi version (i.e. going from 4 to 5), but for the VU+ boxes it has been required a few times this year due to kernel updates done by VU+.

You can install the autobackup plugin, plug a small USB stick in the back of the box, and configure the plugin to make a backup to that stick every night. When you flash a new image, it will detect the backup on the stick and will restore it automatically, both the plugins you had installed before the flash and the configuration, settings list, etc.

So if your image (the last time you flashed) is older than say two months, I suggest you make a backup as described, and flash the box with the latest image. I can't think of anything that would display the spinner for 2-4 minutes only when zapping. Well... I can think of one thing: is the time and date set properly? If a Duo2 boots up and it can't set a proper date, it becomes very sluggish. You can avoid that by having it boot up on a sat channel that has a reliable time, like BBC one on 28.2 for example...

@WanWizard: Thank you so much for the description. My time and date are usually working well and they just need a few seconds to update when I restart my box. So I guess this is not the reason. Actually, I haven't flashed my box for about a year and have just used the incremental update in the mean time. I'll therefore set the autobackup and flash the box using the newest version of software. Is the OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vuduo2-20151019_usb.zip stable enough?

And then, before you do, check the forum here. If there are no issue reports from today relating to the image, it's usually safe to flash, as there are lots of people that update or flash as soon as there is a new image available, so you may expect any serious issues to be reported by the afternoon...

If you want to authenticate via backup landline phone number listed in your profile, if your password is "hunter3", type: hunter3,phone2. You will get a call on your landline and respond to the call to confirm identity by answering the call and pressing a key.

Important!: These images currently target the following Android OTA update versions from Microsoft. These images can only be used on a phone that had as latest the following OTA versions from microsoft even if you are currently running a custom android system image. Using these images will work with a custom Android System Image but the device bootloader and firmware must be from the same Microsoft OTA version as shipped from the stock Microsoft Android Updates!

Flashing these images on any other version may brick your phone or render touch unusable! Make backups of your original boot partitions and ALWAYS test before flashing permanently using "fastboot boot image.img"!.

We do not recommend inexperienced users without advanced knowledge of IT/Command prompts to do this ever. You may find it very hard and mess up your device easily if you do it wrong. Also important to note Android OTAs will not work anymore with a custom boot.img flashed onto the device and you will need to reflash your original backup for them to work or else, you'll be forced to recover with an OTA zip package from if one is even available for your current version or higher.

If for example you flashed the Pixel Experience Android 13 Android System Image on your Surface Duo, and previously you were running Microsoft Stock Android OTA version 2022.123.45, your device firmware and bootloader are still version 2022.123.45 and will not be compatible with these images targeting 2022.902.48

In another example, you flashed the Pixel Experience Android 13 Android System Image on your Surface Duo, and previously you were running Microsoft Stock Android OTA version 2022.902.48, your device firmware and bootloader are still version 2022.902.48 and you are compatible with these images. 2351a5e196
