Model United Nations at Virginia Tech (MUN@VT) is a student organization that fosters global awareness, diplomatic engagement, and a deeper understanding of international affairs. Through United Nations and other international forum simulations, our members explore complex global challenges, represent diverse perspectives, and develop the skills needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected world. Whether discussing international security, human rights, economic development, or emerging geopolitical issues, MUN@VT gives students opportunities to engage in meaningful debate, strengthen their public speaking skills, and explore the complexities of international diplomacy.
Beyond the conference room, MUN@VT is a community of students passionate about collaboration, leadership, and creative problem-solving. We emphasize constructive dialogue, negotiation, and consensus-building, encouraging our members to approach challenging issues with an open mind and a willingness to understand differing viewpoints. Through conferences, campus activities, and opportunities for professional and personal development, we strive to cultivate thoughtful leaders who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world. Guided by Virginia Tech's spirit of service and its motto, Ut Prosim (“That I May Serve”), MUN@VT empowers students to turn global awareness into informed action.
Model United Nations at Virginia Tech participates in collegiate Model UN conferences throughout the year, giving members the opportunity to represent countries, debate pressing international issues, and collaborate with students from universities across the country. In addition to attending conferences, our organization hosts its own collegiate Model UN conference, BIRDMUNC, which brings together delegates for thoughtful debate, complex diplomatic challenges, and skill-building in negotiation, public speaking, and consensus-building. By attending and organizing conferences, MUN@VT members gain hands-on experience in diplomacy, leadership, and event management while helping foster a vibrant collegiate Model UN community.
