Tutorial on Copyright, Teaching, and the World Wide Web
Copyright is a form of legal protection that grants content creators exclusive rights to their work. Navigating copyright can be tricky and at times, confusing. As a teacher, you can run into copyright issues if you have uploaded your lesson plan online, or used another person’s picture in a presentation, or added music to a film you made with your students.
The School Education Gateway has created a tutorial, available in 23 languages, to help you abide by the rules of copyright and give you a few reasons to care about it.
New Online Safety Resources for Teachers
The eSafety Label+ project has published a series of new online safety resources for teachers, touching upon themes such as data protection, media literacy and cyberbullying.
These educational resources, called “eSafety Champion materials”, have been created by teachers, for teachers and include suggestions for lessons plans, self-assessment forms, guidance sheets and other materials. Their goal is to inspire teachers and pupils to engage in more discussions about online safety in their schools. Each of these resources are available in English, while some are also offered in Portuguese, Greek or Czech. Explore the resources on theeSafety Label website.

What are Your Thoughts on Mental Health and Well-being in Schools?
Schools are one of the main environments where children build friendships and develop their self-esteem. They provide a network or peers, parents and school staff for students to lean on during their development.
The significant role that schools play in children’s lives, makes them one of the key determinants of mental health. Many schools in Europe provide mental and emotional support to students and seek ways to promote their well-being. How is mental well-being supported in the school you know or work at? Take this short School Education Gateway survey to share your opinion. It is open until 24 March and available in 23 languages.

School Education Gateway Focus on How to Tackle Bullying
People who regularly experience insecurity, often do not attempt to pursue higher goals, and have difficulty being creative. This can help explain why bullied students often stop learning. Bullying is a serious problem with real effects, and it needs to be addressed.
Dr Paul Downes, of the DCU Institute of Education, discusses how schools can take different approaches to effect change in this area. Several European-funded projects have also risen to the challenge of fighting bullying. One of these projects being the SELMA Project, which focuses on tackling a form of cyberbullying called online hate speech by promoting mutual awareness, tolerance and respect. Visit also the ENABLE resource pack on social-emotional learning skills and peer advocacy.
