About our study
This study focuses on New York City and explores why some residents take responsibility for maintaining these systems—such as clearing trash or debris—even though they are public property. Researchers at SFI-Lab will survey residents to understand their motivations and knowledge about green infrastructure and inspect how well these systems function near their homes.
The goal is to discover how to better engage communities in maintaining green infrastructure, making neighborhoods cleaner, more sustainable, and resilient while helping cities stretch limited resources.
Who can participate?
NYC residents who are 18 years and over and have rain gardens or bioswales within their block.
What is a Rain garden?
A rain garden is a small, planted area designed to soak up rainwater from roofs, driveways, and streets. It’s filled with flowers, shrubs, and plants that can handle wet and dry conditions.
