The Protest was organized combinedly by The Indian Pharmaceutical association, Karnataka branch, Karnataka Yuva pharmacists association, Karnataka state pharmacy colleges Principals association and Karnataka state pharmacy colleges management association.
Over 200 Students from various pharmacy colleges including Vidya Siri College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, and members of the Associations, participated in the protest. Ms. Uma Chandur, Principal of Vidya Siri College of Pharmacy, was among the students and pharmacists who gathered at Town Hall to express their views against the amendment. She Said: “These people have no knowledge about patients’ safety or the drugs. Hence only a registered pharmacist should dispense the medicines as per the Pharmacy Act, 1948. Anyone else doing so , can put people’s lives in danger.
She also said it was a question of job opportunity for many pharmacists who graduate every year and students who were pursuing the course currently.who will be left with fewer employment options,”
