Grants typically fund materials including software, art supplies, books, recordings, instruments, and equipment. Technical and professional fees may also be funded. Lessons, celebrations, and parties are not funded by this grant program. This is a requirement of PTSA's nonprofit status, so exceptions can not be made. Keep in mind that this program has a limited budget and that the PTSA's primary mission is to support VSAA students and teachers. Requests for personal items (laptops, musical instruments) that students would keep at the conclusion of the project are not typically able to be funded.
Money is available for individual and group projects. Please make it clear if your request is for a group project. For requests of more than $50, a match of funds is encouraged but not required.
The grant application includes two portions:
The Application Questions (submitted in a google form--see notes below), and
the Project Budget (uploaded to the Google Form as a google doc or sheet).
The Project Summary must be clear, concise, and easily understood. Please use correct grammar and spelling. Please define artistic and technical terms as if the reader has no knowledge of your topic. You have a better chance of being funded if we have a clear understanding of your project. Remember: these applications are being reviewed by PTSA members (aka parents) who may not be familiar with your art form. Applications are evaluated anonymously, so please do not identify yourself or other team members by name in the application questions unless you are directed to do so.
A committee of PTSA members will review applications. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all students who apply will receive grants, or receive the full amount requested.
Prepare your answers before beginning the google form. For your convenience, we have created a doc (linked above) with all the application questions. Craft your request in a google doc or on paper, and then copy/paste or type your answers into the form. Submit your application via this google form. The deadline for grant applications is Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
Your Yellow Team Advisor/CORE teacher must read and approve your application before you submit it. Please incorporate their feedback into your application.
Typically, students who are awarded grants purchase supplies themselves and then submit receipts to PTSA for reimbursement. If this presents a problem for you, please contact Sarah Logan.
For reimbursement, we require all receipts from your project. (The PTSA is a non-profit organization which is required by law to document all expenditures.) If you are already spending money for your project, remember to save your receipts (your order confirmation email can count as your receipt as long as it shows the amount paid). If you need assistance purchasing items (rather than purchasing them yourself and being reimbursed), please contact Sarah Logan.
Grant recipients will be notified Monday, March 10, 2025.
