Website DDoS Protection Service: Built-In Mitigation From $3.98/mo, 100Gbps Upgrade For $39/IP

If you landed on this page by typing "website DDoS protection service" into a search box, chances are something bad already happened — your site went dark, your host sent a panicky email, or your traffic charts suddenly looked like a heart monitor during a horror movie. You're not alone. DDoS attacks have grown so common that asking how to shield a website from them has basically become a rite of passage for anyone running anything public online.

Let's walk through what a website DDoS protection service actually does, why most "free" shields tend to evaporate the moment a real attack hits, and how one provider — Sharktech — has spent over twenty years turning this into a flat-priced, no-drama utility instead of a panic button. Along the way I'll point out the specific tiers and prices I was able to verify directly from Sharktech's own pages, so you can decide whether it fits your site without having to dig through marketing fluff.

So, What Exactly Is a Website DDoS Protection Service?

A website DDoS protection service sits between the internet and your server, inspecting incoming traffic and filtering out the garbage before it ever touches your application. Think of it as a bouncer with a clipboard standing at the door of your club — legitimate visitors walk in, and the botnet horde gets politely (or not so politely) turned away.

Sharktech, the brand behind the 👉 Sharktech DDoS protection portal, describes its own system as "multi-layered" — meaning it doesn't rely on a single trick. Attack traffic is automatically rerouted to in-house firewalls, scrubbed, and only the clean traffic is passed back to your server in what they call a "no-impact" way. The list of attack types they claim to handle is long: UDP floods, HTTP floods, TCP SYN floods, ICMP floods, Slowloris, NTP amplification, DNS amplification, ACK floods, HTTP POST floods, SSDP reflection, Memcached reflection, SNMP reflection, Chargen reflection, NXDomain, Ping of Death, Smurf, and reflected ICMP/UDP combos. In plain English: most of the household names in the DDoS playbook.

Why Most People Start Looking For Protection Only After The First Attack

Here's the uncomfortable truth I kept running into while researching this: almost nobody buys DDoS protection before they need it. It's like insurance — boring, until the day it isn't. A one-year review on LowEndTalk from a WordPress developer sums it up perfectly. He only migrated to Sharktech after his popular site got "constantly attacked by competitors" and the downtime was "killing" him. Within a day of moving over, the site was live again, and the attacks were stopped. Later, when the attacks scaled up, he upgraded to Sharktech's advanced protection — the kind that spreads traffic across multiple data centers — and the problem stayed solved.

That's the pattern. People search "website DDoS protection service" in a state of mild panic, and what they really want to know is: will this actually work when the next wave hits, and how much is it going to cost me every month?

The Two Big Questions: Does It Work, And What Does It Cost?

Does it work?

Based on what Sharktech publishes and what independent reviewers report, the answer leans yes. Sharktech operates five enterprise-grade data centers — Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, and Amsterdam — and after recent router upgrades the company claims 1.1 Tbps of global connectivity for attack mitigation. Their own engineers monitor the network 24/7, and their Remote Network DDoS Protection uses BGP and GRE tunnels so that "all DDoS attacks [are] stopped before reaching your network," without forcing you to migrate your infrastructure. The LowEndTalk reviewer I mentioned — a self-described "hard customer to please" WordPress expert — ended his write-up with a simple "I recommend Sharktech, especially if you need DDoS protection." That kind of unsolicited line carries more weight than any banner ad.

What does it cost?

This is where it gets genuinely interesting, because Sharktech's pricing philosophy is the opposite of the cloud giants'. Compare it to Azure DDoS Protection, which lists at around $2,944 per month for the Network Protection tier covering 100 public IPs, or roughly $200 per month per IP on smaller plans. Sharktech's approach is built-in-first, upgrade-later.

The Protection Tiers, Explained Without The Marketing Fog

Rather than burying you in a feature matrix, here's how the options stack up. I've only included figures I could verify on Sharktech's own pages.

Standard 40Gbps DDoS Protection — included free with all hosted services

• Comes bundled with every Sharktech VPS, dedicated server, and cloud plan — no separate line item

• Monitors the network 24/7 and automatically filters common attack types

• Sufficient for the majority of small-to-mid websites that aren't being targeted by sustained multi-hundred-gigabit floods

• Best for: bloggers, small business sites, hobby projects, low-traffic apps that just want a baseline shield

100Gbps DDoS Protection — $39/month per IP

• A verified, current price reduction announced on Sharktech's own improvement page, down from earlier levels

• Spreads incoming attacks across all Sharktech data centers using BGP and anycast, leveraging the company's total bandwidth pool

• Can be added to any dedicated server or colocated server; the 100G IPs are separate from your server's primary management IPs

• Best for: game servers, high-traffic WooCommerce or Magento stores, streaming endpoints, and any site that has already been hit by attacks larger than 40Gbps

• 👉 👉 Add 100Gbps DDoS protection to your server

Remote Network DDoS Protection — custom quote

• Designed for businesses that want to protect their own network without migrating to Sharktech's infrastructure

• Works by establishing an external BGP session and a GRE tunnel between your network and theirs; only ingress traffic flows through Sharktech, which they note "cuts latency impact in half"

• No additional hardware or software required on your side, and you can run it "always on" or only during an attack

• Requires a minimum /24 IP block assigned to your company and a device capable of BGP and GRE (a soft router is fine)

• Best for: ISPs, hosting providers, enterprises running their own on-prem infrastructure who can't or won't move

If You Just Want A Protected Website, Start With A VPS

A lot of people searching for "website DDoS protection service" don't actually need a dedicated server or a custom BGP setup. They just need a place to host a WordPress site, a small app, or a game server that won't collapse the first time someone gets annoyed at them. For that crowd, Sharktech's Smart VPS line is the relevant product, and the pricing I confirmed on their VPS page is straightforward:

• Tiny plan — starts at $7.95/month, or $3.98/month when billed annually (a 50% discount that applies automatically). Includes 60Gbps DDoS protection, NVMe storage, Xeon Gold CPUs, and 1Gbps port speed. Sharktech explicitly recommends this as the entry point: "if you're not sure give a Tiny plan a try; spin up a small project today."

• Billing cycles go monthly, quarterly (25% off), semi-annually (35% off), and annually (50% off), so the longer you commit, the cheaper the per-month math gets.

• All Smart VPS plans run on a triple-redundant Proxmox cluster with a stated 99.999% uptime target, and you can deploy VMs in any Sharktech data center for lower latency to your users.

For most website owners, that Tiny plan is genuinely the whole answer to the search query — protected hosting, predictable price, no overage bills, and a 60Gbps shield already bolted on.

Who Is This Actually Built For?

The picture that comes together from Sharktech's own customer testimonials is pretty clear. Game server operators like Dingdian Network report regular 3Gbit–8Gbit attacks where their servers "never skip a beat." Chinese IDC companies praise the long-term trustworthiness. A hobbyist reviewer named Eric Brooks highlights "good entry-level VPS services with no gimmicks and flat pricing." The common thread is people who got tired of surprise downtime and surprise invoices, and wanted a host where the DDoS protection was part of the furniture rather than a upsell popup.

If you fall into any of these buckets — a small business owner whose site keeps getting knocked offline, a game server admin tired of midnight panics, a developer who wants a clean VPS with protection already included, or an enterprise network team that needs remote mitigation without ripping out existing infrastructure — Sharktech's lineup is worth a look before you commit to a much more expensive cloud-tier solution.

A Few Honest Caveats

A couple of things I want to flag so you don't get surprised later. First, on the 100Gbps service, Sharktech itself notes that because of BGP load balancing, it's not always possible to guarantee the absolute best incoming path to your 100G IP, and a geo-centric attack can dump more traffic on one data center than the others. They're transparent about this on their own 100G service page, which I appreciate. Second, their Service Level Agreement ties service credits to network availability tiers — 99.0%–99.99% earns a 10% monthly fee credit, and lower availability earns more. Read the SLA before you sign up so your expectations match the contract. And third, while I found various third-party coupon sites listing Sharktech promo codes, I couldn't independently verify which ones are currently active, so I'm not going to parrot any specific code here. The annual billing discount on VPS, however, is published directly on Sharktech's own pricing page and is reliable.

The Bottom Line

Searching for a "website DDoS protection service" usually means you've been burned or you're worried about being burned. Sharktech's proposition is simple enough to fit in one sentence: protection is included by default on everything they host, you can upgrade to 100Gbps for a flat $39 per IP per month if you need more headroom, and if you can't move your infrastructure at all, they'll shield it remotely over BGP. No per-gig mitigation fees, no "call us for enterprise pricing" black box for the standard tiers.

If that matches what you were looking for, the next step is just picking the tier that lines up with how big your site is and how big the attacks are likely to get.
