Welcome to VP Debate! Take a look through our information presentation (attached below) which has all you need to know about the club.
Te core of the VP Debate program is British Parliamentary (BP) Debate. This style of debate involves four teams, two people per team, and each member has a specific role to play in the debate. For example, one speaker's job it is to introduce new arguments, another speaker to summarize the debate, etc. The club is divided into three groups, which meet separate, but all at the same time. Each meeting starts with a short presentation on a key debate concept or skill. Then, a formal round of BP debate or other speaking game/activity is held. Casual group meetings run 60 minutes each week, whereas Intro to BP and Competitive meetings run for 90 minutes.

Club Leader + Debate Captain
Hey! I'm Andre, a student here at VP. I am a city planning and politics nerd, and am in love with the intricacies of transit systems all around the world. Catch me binging cop tv shows or scrolling mindlessly through tik tok for hours.
Debate Captain
Hello! I won't be introducing my name cuz it's sorta of right above this paragraph (No idea what everyone else was thinking >:]). I enjoy art, reading (manga especially), and any adrenaline-inducing activities (like skiing!). I love talking to people, if you spot me in the halls say hi.
Debate Trainer + Tournaments Ofc
(Andre is forcing me to write this) I'm Dawson, and I wish my life could get easier. It's tough enough having to deal with the competitive group, but school certainly doesn't help. I love wasting my time endlessly on social media and watching/playing sports - basketball and baseball are my favourite. Feel free to talk to me about anything - I know a little bit about a lot.
Debate Captain + Tournament Ofc
Hello, My name is Percy and I'm a student at VP. I enjoy reading random books and playing random games (mainly league). I also like most sports, except basketball which kinda sucks. I also hate french because it's the worst subject ever.
Debate Trainer
Hi! I'm Anna and I'm excited to be part of VP debate this year. I love reading (anything for a sentimental ending :pensive: or humour) and I also like listening to music, if you have recs, please feel free to let me know :P
Debate Trainer + Comms Ofc
Heyo, you can call me Michael. It's my last year of high school, although it only feels like my second. I enjoy sports, especially hockey, and video games are fun too. I've been listening to a lot of R&B, but I'm sure my taste will suddenly change. Don't hesitate to chat with me! I love socializing and meeting new people.
Finance Ofc
Hi guys! My name's Matthew. To put it simply, my job is to make the club rich to provide a better club experience. In my spare time, I enjoy watching T.V shows and going out for food (If you have any show recommendations or good food places please let me know). If you see me in the halls, feel free to say hi :D
Debate Trainer + Equity Ofc
Bonjourai, I'm Anton! I'm fully aware that this isn't a word in any language, but that doesn't really matter, does it? In addition to being a debate trainer, my job here at VP debate is to also make sure all equity issues are resolved smoothly. In other words, I get to be a discord mod :D
Promotions Ofc
Hi! I'm Tina and I love playing indie games, drawing, watching anime and eating food. My job is to yassify anything debate club related. Fun fact: I type an average of 130 WPM. Feel free to DM me on Discord any time if you have any questions about IB or life in general!
Victoria Park Debate is a place where students will forge new friendships and get experience debating with professional debate formats. Debate encourages public speaking and for our members to support arguments they may not personally agree with. We will ensure that rounds will stay formal and that no personal attacks will be made. All voices are respected and everyone is welcome to be a part of the debate community.
If you have any equity related concerns, please reach out to the equity officer via Discord
