INDICATORS
Reachability measures each island’s access to the broader Venetian transit network by counting the number of bridges, docks, and boat stops.
Accessibility refers to how accessible a given island is to people with mobility impairments, whether it is a disability or a physical restraint like a suitcase or stroller.
Affordability is an economic measure that estimates the burden of housing costs on residents. To calculate the affordability of an island, we accounted for the median cost to purchase and rent an apartment for each island.
Green Space is the surface area of the green space present divided by the total surface area of the island.
When measuring how well-served an island is, we are measuring the availability of essential services depending on the dominating age demographic: schools, health-related stores and businesses, food stores, and general services, all of which are important for both residents and long-term livability.
Island Users takes both the permanent resident population and the number of tourist beds to determine the overall population density of an island.
