Votto announces extension of player career

oey Votto (40), who announced his imminent retirement due to injuries and poor performance at an unexpected age, is expected to continue his career as an active player.

MLB.com, the official Major League Baseball website, reported on the 7th (Korean time) that Votto appeared on the 'Dan Patrick Show' and expressed his intention to continue his career as a player in 2024.

According to this, Votto said, “I want to play again,” and “I want to play at least one more year.”

Votto's 10-year, $225 million guaranteed contract with the Cincinnati Reds expired at the end of this season. The club option for the 2024 season is $20 million, and the buyout is $7 million.

It is unlikely that Cincinnati will exercise Votto's club option. Accordingly, in order for Votto to continue his career as a player in the 2024 season, he will likely need to sign a contract with another team.

Votto also seemed to have anticipated this separation, taking off his hat to respond to the standing ovation of the audience at the last home game of this season held on September 25th.

Votto, who has been in the Major League for 17 years, was a hitter who boasted the highest accuracy during his prime. He was selected as a National League All-Star a total of six times, and also won the Gold Glove once.  먹튀검증

The best year was in 2010 when he won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. At the time, Votto had a batting average of 0.324, 37 home runs, 113 RBI, 106 runs, 177 hits, an on-base percentage of 0.424, and an OPS of 1.024.

At the time, Votto reigned as a top-level hitter with hitting accuracy, outstanding power, and the best pitching ability in the major leagues.

Votto played only in Cincinnati for 17 years, and in 2,056 career games, he recorded a batting average of 0.294, 356 home runs, 1,144 RBI, 1,171 runs, 2,135 hits, and an on-base percentage of 0.409 and an OPS of 0.920.

However, injuries and poor performance coincided this season. In 65 games, he only had a batting average of .202, 14 home runs, 38 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .314, and an OPS of .747.

Votto seemed like he would retire like this. However, Votto clearly expressed his intention to extend his playing career. It remains to be seen whether Votto will enter his 41st season.
