BIOGRAPHY

Malik Shaheed was born and raised in Little Burgundy and has been a dedicated resident of Dollard-des- Ormeaux since 2005. Having grown up in a neighbourhood that has a lot of similarities he understands the challenges and issues that District 8 faces . This is why Malik the ideal candidate for district 8.

FOUNDER OF YOUTH STARS

In 2008, Malik founded The Youth Stars Foundation -A community-based non-profit with a centre located in DDO- Focused on bringing youth of all backgrounds together to develop self-esteem and interpersonal skills through specialized programming , workshops and camps.

SCHOOL COMMISSIONER

Malik is also a Lester B. Pearson School board Commissioner for Electoral division 5 where his main goal is to be a voice for the voiceless, creating a link between home and school and working to ensure schools reflect the needs of their population through diversity and inclusivity.

AWARDS AND MEDIA EXPERIENCE

Malik has won many awards including the YMCA Medal of Peace Award, Parliament of Canada Community award as well as Montreal Community Cares award. He has worked in Media as a producer and an on air Personality for Virgin Radio 95.9 and the Francophone Music station MusiquePlus where he travelled across Quebec , embracing the diverse Quebecois culture .

COMMUNITY WORK

Malik has worked extensively with the YMCA as an animator and youth coordinator. Malik is the key organizer of the yearly West Island United Rally Denouncing Racism as well as head organizer for unity, diversity and anti-bullying tours . Malik’s experiences working with families and his strong desire to give back to his community led him to create successful march and summer camp programs where he has hired and sponsored many youth from DDO.
