My Qualifications

  • I taught junior high and high school students for 38 years.

  • I was appointed to State SARB, a state commission which makes recommendations to the legislature on how to improve student attendance and discipline in our public schools. I was the only teacher on the committee, so I had the honor of representing California's 325,000 teachers.

  • I serve on the Board of Directors of California's Valued Trust, a non-profit health care organization. CVT provides health care to 35% of California's teachers and their families.

  • While I was a teacher, I was trained to examine and analyze school district budgets. This allowed me to make sure all taxpayer dollars were spent on effective programs to promote student achievement in academics, the arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
