For 13 years, I stood in the classroom—seven of those right here in the Lenape Regional High School District at Shawnee High School. I know firsthand the joys and the challenges of teaching, and I am proud to have been part of a district that values excellence. Today, I’m running for the LRHSD Board of Education because I believe our students deserve strong advocates who understand education from the inside out.
Our district prides itself on a “tradition of excellence” and preparing students for “two graduations.” But excellence doesn’t happen by chance—it requires thoughtful policies and decisions that truly put students first. During my years in LRHSD, I saw how certain district policies directly affected learning. Phasing out academic levels (starting with world languages), not preparing students for midterms and finals (as the district does not have such exams), lacking a consistent cell phone policy, and awarding a 50% minimum grade even when students earned less—all of these lower expectations instead of raising them. That’s not the future we should be preparing our children for.
As your representative on the Board of Education, I will:
Champion student success by supporting policies that challenge and prepare all learners.
Support teachers and staff so they have the tools and respect needed to succeed.
Bring transparency and accountability to every board decision.
My commitment is simple: every decision I make will focus on what matters most—our children’s education and future.
Let’s put students over politics and keep excellence at the heart of LRHSD.
With dedication, Amanda Fitchett Candidate for Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education
