Eastern Iowa Community Colleges should be a launchpad for working families, for young people building a future, for adults retraining mid-career, and for seniors seeking lifelong learning. But too often, rising costs, top-down decision-making, and outdated systems hold us back.
I’m here to change that.
As your trustee for District 2, I’ll fight to keep our colleges affordable, transparent, and grounded in the real needs of our community, not corporate donors, political insiders, or distant bureaucrats. I’ll champion programs that create real job opportunities, support every student’s success, and make EICC a welcoming and safe space for all.
My job is about putting people first, making bold and common-sense decisions, and ensuring that our college works for all of us.
Too many Iowans are being priced out of education. I’ll work to:
Freeze or reduce tuition and fees by demanding fair, sustained state funding.
Oppose unnecessary administrative bloat and redirect funds to classrooms, labs, and student support.
Expand access for working adults, veterans, parents, and seniors by pushing for flexible course options, evening programs, and community outreach.
EICC must respond to the real economy. I’ll support:
Expansion of hands-on, high-wage career programs in healthcare, IT, trades, renewable energy, and logistics.
Partnerships with unions, small businesses, and apprenticeship providers to build a stronger pipeline to local employment.
Support for new initiatives like food incubators, maker spaces, and entrepreneurship training—especially for underserved communities.
Decisions about our community college should be made with us—not above us. I will:
Champion open board meetings with live-streaming, community comment sessions, and clear public notices.
Advocate for plain-language financial reporting and regular updates on board decisions.
Propose district-based town halls and direct constituent engagement, so you always know what’s happening and why.
We can’t build strong institutions without strong people. I will:
Invest in academic advising, mental health counseling, tutoring, and student services that reduce dropouts and improve outcomes.
Support collective bargaining rights, professional development, and fair contracts for faculty and staff.
Center equity by identifying and closing success gaps across race, age, income, and life experience.
Prioritize safety infrastructure, emergency planning, and public accountability in response to threats or incidents.
Condemn and take action against harassment, hate speech, or discrimination of any kind.
Promote policies that uphold both free expression and respectful civic discourse.
Expand lifelong learning offerings for older adults and returning learners.
Make campuses available for community programming: health fairs, cultural events, workshops, and more.
Ensure each campus reflects the best of Eastern Iowa—hospitality, accessibility, and opportunity.
