Key moments from my creative process, captured mid-flow.
The first is one of my all-time favorite characters: Lando Calrissian, Administrator of my favorite place in Star Wars—Cloud City, Bespin. I imagined him on a cinematic poster from the '80s, radiating charm and quiet gravity.
The process begins with a lightly drawn sketch. For black paper, I use a fine nib with white ink to make the linework almost disappear—just enough to guide form without overpowering the final piece. Then comes the ink wash pass, which sets the lighting and atmosphere.
While black paper struggles with most colored mediums, layering a white ink underpainting makes pencils pop in the final result.
On white paper, the steps are much the same. I switch from white ink to black ink, sketch in pencil, and roll over the lines with a kneaded eraser to soften them. From there, I render the image in black and white before applying color—clean, cinematic, and full of depth.
