step 1. launch minecraft on whichever client you use. (i am just using the standard minecraft client for demonstration purposes.)

step 2. go to the multiplayer tab.

step 3. navigate to the "direct connection" or "add server" button.

step 4. enter the server IP into the "server address" box. make sure that resource packs are set to "prompt," and click done.
