Our Vocabulary program

語学が上達するためには、多くの語彙を覚える必要があります。ネイティブレベルの教材を完全に理解するには、10,000語以上の語彙が必要と言われています。

関西学院大学教育学部では、English Central に含まれるオンラインアプリ「Vocabulary Builder」を使って、英語で最もよく使われる単語を学びます。これらの単語は出る順（頻度順）に紹介されるため、まずは最も一般的な単語から学び、徐々に珍しい単語へと進んでいきます。このように語彙を学ぶことで、できるだけ早く英語を理解し、使いこなせるようになります。

授業で使用する語彙リストは、クラスによって次の2つのうちいずれかになります：

1. NGSL語彙リスト：一般英語で最もよく使われる2,800語が含まれています。どのような英語の目標を持っていても、これらの単語は全て知っておくことがとても重要です。すべての学生は、1年生と2年生でこのリストを学習します。

2. TOEIC語彙リスト：  TOEICテストによく出る1,252語が含まれています。一部のクラスでこの語彙リストを学習しますが、TOEICのスコアを上げたい人は、ぜひ自主的に学習を始めてください！

これらの単語の理解度は、毎週授業でテストされます。テストは筆記または口頭で行われ、各回10問出題されます。テストの点数は最終成績にも含まれます。

この語彙プログラムの特徴は、毎週異なる単語セットを学ぶのではなく、学習が進むにつれて語彙範囲が広がる点にあります。つまり、学習した単語は学期を通じて継続的に復習する必要があります。これにより、語彙の知識がより強化され、テストでも高得点を取ることができるようになります。

You need to learn a lot of vocabulary if you want to become a successful language users - over 10,000 if you want to fully understand native-level materials.

At the Kwansei Gakuin University School of Education, we will use an online application called Vocabulary Builder (a part of English Central) to learn the most common English words. They are introduced in frequency order (出る順) so you review the most common words first, moving to more and more rare words. Studying vocabulary in this way will allow you to begin understanding and using English as soon as possible.

There are two basic lists of words which you will study, depending on the class:

1. NGSL Vocabulary: These are the most common 2,800 words of general English. It is very important that you know all of these words, no matter what English goals you have. All students will study these words in the first and second year.

2. TOEIC Vocabulary: These are the most common 1,252 words which appear on the TOEIC test. Only some classes will study these words, but if you want to get a good TOEIC score, start reviewing by yourself!

Your knowledge of these words will be tested in class every week. Each test will be either a written or spoken test, and will have 10 questions. These test scores are included in your final grades.

Rather than reviewing and testing different sets of words each week, a unique feature of this vocabulary program is that the vocabulary range expands as you study more words. This means that you need to continue reviewing the words you learn throughout the semester. This will strengthen your knowledge of these words and help you to get good scores on the tests.
