V.N. Purushothaman Govt. Higher Secondary School is one of the oldest and famous school in Mahe. It has became one of the cultural icons of Mahe.
The School began in 1869 as a Lower Primary School Classes were held in French medium. In 1947, it was upgraded as a middle School and was given the name Echole Mixed De Palloor".
From 1962 to 1968, students of this school attended Madras Matriculation Exam. Since 1969 the school has been following the Kerala board of education syllabus, students of this school achieve 100% in the year 1977,1984,1992,2000. From 2011 to 2023 the school produced 100% result in the SSLC Exam except in the years 2014 & 2016.
The school was upgraded as a Higher Secondary School in the year 2001 and follows two streams as Science and Commerce. This School follows non-shift schedule. Classes from 6th to 12th use both English and Malayalam as the medium of learning. The success in both academic and non-academic made the school greatly reputed among the schools of Mahe region.
