My pedagogy comprises an experiential, learning-by-doing approach. Students learn best through hands-on activities followed by reflection, teaching their peers, experimentation, and practicing the same skills in different situations. I generally tell my students,
“If you go to the gym and watch your friend work out, you do not get fit. You need to do it yourself.”
I am responsible for creating a space where this learning and experimentation can happen.
I believe that education is...
the path we walk to learn about the world and ourselves.
Teaching is...
the process of walking with others, calling their attention to lessons along the way, and inviting them to think critically and to act purposefully in the world.
My role as an educator is...
to support students along their own paths, broadening their perspectives, challenging their assumptions, and inspiring them.
My goal for students is for them...
to feel inspired by the possibilities of a better world, to be compelled by global injustices, and to have the tools to act upon them.
