We had another well attended outside club night at the Cock with a good variety of machines, a number of new members and a great deal of interest from potential members. Once again, we were well looked after by the staff on a warm balmy evening.

Another successful Club night, this time without the rain. A good attendance for our Machine Night with a wide variety of machinery both exotic and every-day, a bit like our members. After a year of restrictions, it was good to see some familiar faces again and welcome new members, to whom free Cheshire Cats machine badges were handed out – if you haven’t had yours yet make sure you see me to get one. The evening also saw a great interest from visitors who have subsequently joined the VMCC and are looking forward to joining us on our events. A brisk trade was done with our Cheshire Cats pin badges – still time to get yours before the next ride out. Julie at the Cock was delighted to welcome so many of us and spent most of the evening chasing round serving our bunch of thirsty bikers and of course we are happy to support our local hostelries.
Phil Green took on the task of judging on the night and deliberated on three classes, Best British, best European and Best Japanese. A tough task bearing in mind the quality of the machines present. After perusing the 50 or more bikes he managed not to pick his own bike as a winner so we might ask him to do it again!
The winners were:-
Best British – Simon Kinsey BSA Rocket 3
Simon has built this up over the past few years. I suppose it makes a change from his Triton.
Best European – Tony McAdam – MZ Trophy
I’ve seen Tony riding this machine in many events round the region. It’s a beauty.
Best Japanese – Nigel Christie – Honda CBX.
Nigel was delighted to win this trophy on his first visit to club night.
An excellent evening at the Cock and hopefully one to be repeated next month, but maybe without the prizes!
7.00pm - The Cock @ Budworth

For the first time since August 2020, we were able to gather together for our May club night at the Cock at Budworth. I wasn’t able to make it but our correspondent from ‘The Cock’ sends this report –
“Last night’s meeting was a great success and almost back to normality, we were ushered into the usual room with well-spaced tables set up for six persons as per regulations, there was table service and about eighteen members attended.
I gave a short sermon about the ballot results and the fact that several discontented North West area sections plan to break away and form a North West area vintage classic club as way of testing the feelings of the members, this has given them something to think about and hopefully we will have some feedback by the time we attend the mystery meeting.
There was considerable mirth when it was mentioned that C & NW have requested the loan of the Brough Superior for the Llangollen and other bike shows in our region, this may give an indication of feelings?
Generally, the atmosphere was good with lots of chatter and it was good to see people again and no doubt subject to the Covid situation we will be back in the room next month. – Bob Moon”

A cautious return to club nights
Our usual club night events have all been postponed for the foreseeable future. Once the Tier restrictions allow we will attempt to return to face to face meetings. Check back here for more news as things change
Well it looks like official club nights are off for the foreseeable future. Keep checking back for any developments. In the meantime I hope some of us may still be able to meet on an informal basis over the coming months.

Noggin and Natter and just a good chance to catch up.
Our first Machine night held at the Cock at Budworth was a huge success with somewhere in the region of 50 bikes attending. Members from the Cheshire and North Wales and the Manchester and High Peak Sections swelled the numbers along with a large contingent from the BSA Owners Club. The array of bikes improves year on year with a mixture of British, European, Japanese, WD, three-wheelers and outfits. Awards went to John Hodgson for his immaculate Sunbeam S7 Deluxe and to Ross Curwell for his Kawazaki KH 500.

Club Night – February 2019
At this month’s meeting we welcomed three new visitors, Dave Moss, Allan Roberts and Phil Webster. We were also happy to welcome back Andy Royal who since visiting us last month has now become a full member of the club and sourced himself a bike. I think it’s a Honda CBR 450 so if anyone has any advice, I’m sure Andy would welcome it.
Stephen made announcements regarding upcoming runs Mikes Spring Run and Wistanstow Bike Show, details on our calendar page and also on the VMCC website.
In addition, if anyone is thinking of going to the training Day in May he has an offer of a seat in the car – contact Stephen. Similarly, Alex Loader has the same offer for the September event.
Also being arranged is a visit to Motrac Racing, near Ellesmere Port, who build and repair racing bikes. More details to follow.
A big thank-you to Derek Thom for all the preparation he put into the Bring and Buy Action and for his hard work on the night, keeping us all amused and also spending our cash. We managed to raise £294 in contributions towards Section funds. Hopefully we can use it to equip the new club night location with good IT facilities for presentations.
And finally, just a quick reminder that next month’s club night, 21st March, is a talk by Bernard Dennis on the 3rd Duke of Bridgewater – “The Canal Duke”. If anyone has any contact for other speakers they may know who would be able to give us any interesting talks please let someone on the committee know and we can look into making arrangements.
Club Night – February 2019
February’s ClubNight (21st February at the Cock@Budworth) will feature our
Annual Bring ‘n Buy Auction
run by Derek Thom as usual. This year’s event promises to be the best ever – we’re advertising it far and wide and Derek will be in fine voice as usual, and dressed for his part as The Greatest Showman!
The flyer has some details for your perusal – please share this with any friends/relatives/enemies etc as appropriate – who knows, they may have something to bring or want to buy…
The main reason for the advance warning is to give you chance to
clear out your bike shed and have a good supply of Stuff To Sell!
Remember: that Treble Thrunge-pin you have gathering dust under the bench may be the very thing someone needs to complete their winter project. Conversely, that Sprocket-wobbler you’ve been looking for all year may turn up at the Bring ‘n Buy at a special knock-down price.
(Derek tells me you have to buy now before he puts the price up after Brexit!).
More details on the flyer; please act now to make this event a success!
