Scarlette Kerr lives in Winston-Salem, NC, where she runs her independent piano studio, Music at 906. Scarlette’s pedagogical philosophy is strongly influenced by the work of Edwin E. Gordon and his Music Learning Theory, and she has presented on topics pertaining to audiation-based piano instruction at state, national, and international conferences. She has also been featured on the TopMusic Piano, Piano Tech Radio Hour, Music Studio Startup, and Keys to Music Learning podcasts. She is also a webinar contributor for Music Learning Academy, an online resource for teachers learning more about Music Learning Theory and Audiation-Based Piano Instruction.

She was the recipient of the 2025 North Carolina Music Teachers Association Independent Music Teachers Forum Scholarship to study jazz harmony via audiation-based instruction from Beau Taillefer, a classical and jazz guitarist based in Calgary, Alberta. She was also the 2020 winner of the Music Studio Startup Grant Competition, where she used her grant to help start Music at 906 after finishing her graduate degree.

Scarlette received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with an Emphasis in Accompanying from James Madison University and her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy with an Emphasis in Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique from Salem College.

She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and also holds certifications from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning and the Lister-Sink Institute. She currently serves as Vice-President for the Winston-Salem Piano Teachers Association and is the collaborative pianist for the Triad Festival Singers.
