Biography-
Dr. Vivek Gupta is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Precision and Microsystems Engineering Department at TU Delft, working under the supervision of Dr. S. H. (Hassan) Hossein Nia Kani and Prof. dr. ir. Just L. Herder. His project focuses on active mechatronic metamaterials for dynamic mode suppression, developed in close collaboration with ASML, where Bas Jansen serves as the industrial partner. His research integrates mechanical metamaterials, data-driven ML approaches, structural dynamics, vibration control, and intelligent mechatronic systems, with expertise spanning analytical modelling, finite element simulations, and high-precision experimental validation. He earned his PhD in Dynamics and Vibration Control from IIT Kanpur in 2024, from Smart Materials, Structures and Systems (SMSS) Lab under the supervision of Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya, where his award-winning dissertation (Outstanding PhD award) advanced the understanding of hourglass-based metastructures, wave propagation, and vibration attenuation. Dr. Gupta has held visiting research positions at Swansea University - UK, University of Sheffield, Waseda University, Japan, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA, contributing to projects in metamaterials, sensing technologies, and ocean-based instrumentation. His technical strengths include LDV-based dynamic characterization, COMSOL, ANSYS and SPACAR modelling, real-time control using LabVIEW/FPGA, and testbed development for high-precision systems. He has supervised MSc theses at TU Delft and IIT Kanpur, contributed to teaching in dynamics, vibrations and smart materials, and organised the Metamaterials and Mechatronics Symposium (2025). His awards include the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award (IIT Kanpur), Distinguished Researcher Award, Sakura Fellowship, and the SPARC International Fellowship, through which he collaborated with Prof. Sondipon Adhikari, Prof. Alper Erturk, Prof. Ogai Harutoshi, and Prof. Arnab Banerjee. Dr. Gupta’s research vision is to develop next-generation adaptive metamaterials and intelligent vibration-control technologies for applications in precision engineering, manufacturing, and robotics.
