Acts of Care
This project aims to highlight the importance of investing in relationships and the transformative power of care and repair in our lives. I explore the theme of care and repair as the investments we make in ourselves and others in romantic relationships. By photographing UCI students in romantic, monogamous relationships, I explore how couples utilize different forms of intimacy to care for each other and, in turn, care for themselves. The core of human existence is the relationships we hold and maintain. By removing external stressors and intentionally investing time and energy into their relationships, these individuals engage in acts of repair. The project showcases diverse ways in which people build and maintain relationships, from simple acts of sharing fast food in the car, lying in the grass and playing card games, dancing together at the beach, to navigating arguments. All these moments are means in which individuals cultivate connection in built environments of rest, healing, and connection.
