MS/PhD and Postdocs:
The group is looking for candidates interested in single-cell patch clamp electrophysiology. We are also looking for students interested in performing large-scale neuronal recordings using a Neuropixels 2.0 system. The research projects will involve animal handling, ex-vivo tissue preparations, histology, fluorescence microscopy, physiological measurements and analysis using MATLAB/Python/IgorPro, etc. Candidates with experience in any of the above-mentioned steps are particularly encouraged to apply. Interested MS/PhD candidates, please apply through IITM's Research Academic Portal. Postdoc applicants can directly contact Dr. Santhosh.
UG/ PG projects:
We require a minimum commitment of 6 months. IITM students are encouraged to do a UGRC. We are looking for students interested in reconstructing neurons, and their inputs, from publicly available Serial blockface Electron Microscopy datasets. We are also looking for students interested in designing analytical tools using Python or MATLAB for our behaviour and physiology datasets. Interested students, please contact Dr. Santhosh or visit his office.
27th January 2025 - The first publication from our lab.
Philip, Singh et al. show that the OFF dendritic arbor in ON–OFF DSGCs is substantially denser and receives a significantly higher number of synaptic inputs compared to ON arbors. These observations suggest that the ON–OFF DSGC preferentially magnifies the synaptic drive of the OFF pathway.
