Visor Ride – Privacy Policy
Effective: 12 October 2026 · Applies from version 0.7.0
Short version: Visor Ride has no internet permission. Everything it reads – notifications, location, sensor and vehicle data – is processed on your phone and never sent anywhere by the app. The only data that can reach the developer is a feedback or crash report that you choose to send from your own email app.
Who we are
Visor Ride is developed by an independent developer in Sweden (maxetch). Contact: maxetcham@gmail.com.
What the app reads, and why
Every permission is optional. The app works without them; each one only unlocks features. You choose during setup and can change your mind at any time in the app (Settings → Permissions) or in Android settings.
* Notifications (app, title, text, time) – To list them on the dashboard. While moving, only the app and sender are shown; on a locked phone the text is hidden. Stays: In memory only (max 30), removed when the notification is removed. The names of apps that sent notifications are saved so you can choose which apps to show.
* Google Maps navigation (next turn, distance, arrival) – To show the next turn on the dashboard. Stays: In memory only.
* Media playing (song, artist, artwork, play state) – To show and control music. Stays: In memory only.
* Precise location (GPS) – Speed, trip distance and time, time standing still, parking spot. Location is used while the app is open, and during a trip. A trip starts with the app open – when you start moving or your vehicle's Bluetooth connects, or when you tap Trip. Once started, the trip keeps counting with the screen off or another app (such as navigation) in front. While it does, an ongoing "Trip in progress" notification is shown with an End trip button. Location stops when the trip ends: when you end it, when the vehicle disconnects, or after 30 minutes standing still. The app never asks for "Allow all the time" location access. Stays: In memory. The parking spot (latitude, longitude, time) is saved on the phone per vehicle until the next parking.
* Motion sensors (barometer, gravity) – Climbing (bicycle) and lean angle (motorcycle). Stays: In memory.
* Bluetooth (nearby devices) – To recognise your vehicle – car stereo, intercom or scooter – and to read scooter data. During a trip, the connection to your scooter is kept open with the screen off (shown in the same ongoing notification). Never used to determine your location. Stays: Your chosen vehicles and their Bluetooth device name/address are saved on the phone.
* Scooter data (batteries, voltage, temperature, ride mode, errors) – To show scooter status. When pairing, the app writes a pairing password to the scooter. Stays: Learned consumption, current trip summary (no positions), the scooter's Bluetooth address, name and serial number, and the pairing password – encrypted with Android Keystore – are saved on the phone.
* Language and region settings – The app follows your phone's language (English or Swedish). Units (km/h or mph, km or miles) follow your phone's region unless you choose Metric or Imperial in Settings. Read on the phone only. Stays: Your unit choice is saved with the other settings.
What the app stores on your phone
Settings (including units), vehicles and dashboard layouts; the parking spot per vehicle; scooter pairing data; a technical error log (max 200 lines, never containing positions, notification text, names or addresses); and a crash file if the app crashes. All of this is in the app's private storage. Android backup and device-to-device transfer of app data are disabled.
Beta event log. Because this is a beta, the app also keeps a technical event log on the phone so that problems can be understood: when a trip starts and ends (and why), the trip's distance and time, how many GPS fixes are received per minute (not the positions), screen on/off during a trip, when the trip runs in the background and in which mode (location / connected scooter), the scooter connection state, which permissions are granted (yes/no), and the app and Android version. It never contains your position, notification text, names or Bluetooth addresses. It is limited to 1,000 lines and 7 days, is shown on the welcome screen, and can be cleared at any time in Settings → Privacy.
What leaves your phone
The app has no internet permission and cannot send data itself. Data only leaves your phone if you:
* Send feedback or a crash report. The app opens your own email app with a pre-filled message to the developer. You see the full text and decide whether to send it. With "Attach technical report" on (default), it includes: app version; device manufacturer, model, Android version and language; vehicle type; which permissions are granted (yes/no); trip and scooter link status; the last 50 lines of the error log; the last 300 lines of the beta event log; and, after a crash, the error trace. It never includes your position, notification text, names or Bluetooth addresses. Your email address and anything you write are received by the developer as with any email.
* Open the parking spot in a map app. The coordinates are passed to the map app you choose, at your request.
The developer uses feedback emails only to answer you and fix problems, keeps them no longer than needed for that, and never sells or shares them. You can ask for your emails to be deleted at any time.
No ads, analytics or tracking
The app contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs, has no accounts and no servers.
Deleting your data
In the app, Settings → Privacy lets you delete saved parking spots, forget the scooter (address, serial number and pairing password) and clear the error and event logs, each after a confirmation. Remove a vehicle in the app to delete it. To delete everything, use Android Settings → Apps → Visor Ride → Storage → Clear data, or uninstall the app. To delete feedback you have sent, email the developer.
Lock screen
The dashboard can be shown over the lock screen so you can glance at it while riding. Notification text is hidden on a locked phone by default.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Third-party vehicles
Scooter support works with some Segway-Ninebot scooters and is experimental. Visor Ride is not affiliated with or endorsed by Segway-Ninebot.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
12 October 2026: Trips keep counting with the screen off (ongoing notification); language and units settings added.
