HOW TO TUTORIALS

ONLINE LEARNING INSTRUCTION CONTENT
Learning materials are shared via Class Dojo for Prek-3 and Google Classroom, for grades 3-12.
Learning activities are engaging, inquiry-based explorations related to grade level curricular standards.
Learning activities may be completed:
independently online
collaboratively online, video conference using ZOOM, or other collaborative tools
Learning activities have a number of purposes:
allow students to engage with new learning
practice, discuss or apply learning
demonstrate knowledge and skills in relation to learning
Learning connects to current units and curriculum.
Assessment tasks enable student to demonstrate their understanding.
ONLINE LEARNING TIPS AND TRICKS
Students
Establish a daily routine to support your learning.
Identify a comfortable, quiet space so you can work effectively and successfully.
Check your Class Dojo (PreK-2) or Google Classroom or email (Grades 3-12) frequently.
Complete tasks/activities on which you can receive feedback (either online or during the next class meeting, as indicated in instructions).
Participate in online learning activities with your peers.
Complete assessment tasks.
Keep all your passwords for educational resources safe
Take breaks, play, rest, be active.
Communicate proactively with your teachers. Ask questions, but be patient when waiting for a response. If a teacher emails you, respond in a timely manner. You can use Class Dojo (PreK-12, or Google Classroom or email (Grades 3-12).
Be mindful of your workload and wellbeing.
If you have any concerns, contact your teacher or the school counsellor.
Remember that VIS Pride (Respectful, Responsible, Safe) applies during Online learning, as well.
Families
Ask questions, talk about learning, upcoming deadlines, and workload.
Help your child develop daily routines.
Encourage your child to take study breaks and to take part in physical exercise.
Be mindful of your child’s wellbeing; speak to them regularly about concerns or challenges.
Choose a learning location that is suitable to be seen by peers and teachers if students are using video tools.
Create opportunities for your child to interact with peers to maintain connections with their school community online as needed.
Teachers will start video conferences with students cameras off.
If there are siblings simultaneously online, choose locations that do not cause noise interference when recording learning or video conferencing.
Communicate any concerns to your child’s teacher, principal, or counsellor via email or phone calls.
Keep your laptop/iPad charged.
Teachers
Post learning materials for the lessons in Class Dojo (PreK-2), or Google Classroom (Grades 3-12)
Plan learning activities with appropriate instruction.
Provide learning activities that include time away from devices.
Provide reflection and feedback in the process of posting student learning on Class Dojo or Google Classroom.
Post formative and summative assessments with clear guidelines in regards to submission procedures, completion instructions, or deadlines so that students and parents can all see them and plan workload accordingly.
Provide at least a 24 hours notice of any face to face sessions via Zoom.
Follow the current assessment practices, including advance notice for assessments.
RULES FOR STUDENTS WHILE USING ZOOM
Students must have a charged iPad before joining a Zoom meeting.
Students will join the Zoom meeting at least 5 minutes before the starting time.
Students must be seated at a table/counter with minimal distractions in the background (not lying in bed, on the couch or outdoors).
Students must stay muted until the teacher chooses to unmute them.
Students may turn their cameras on with parent permission. (If there is any question, teachers can verify with parent via email and keep a copy of the email).
Same school and classroom rules apply while in a Zoom meeting (being respectful, not speaking out of turn).
Students are NOT ALLOWED to create their Zoom Meetings (teachers are inviting students to a scheduled Zoom meeting).
Students are NOT ALLOWED to use the Zoom chat outside of the meetings (teachers will communicate with students through Google Classroom, Class Dojo or email).

CREATIVITY
Is your artwork stacking up? Create a free website in Google Sites to host your creative work.
Learn a new DIY skill such as crafting, scrapbooking, making beauty/health products (like hand sanitizer), crocheting, sewing (make your own face mask!).
Take an online tour of some of the most famous museums in the world and write about what you learned.
SHARPEN YOUR ACADEMIC SKILLS
Free courses offered by Ivy League Universities
Learn a new skill and take an online class through Coursera, Udemy, Khan Academy or many of the other online learning platforms.
