Engineering and Maintenance
You asked a BabCom terminal for information about Grey Sector...
Grey Sector is devoted to station maintenance. It contains fabrication and heavy engineering workshops, the power transfer grid and the maglev rotation gear that keeps the Carousel spinning. Concentric rings allow people and materials to move between the rotating and zero-gravity parts of the station. Grey Sector is mostly visited by technicians.
Places to Visit
Transfer Grid: The power to run the station comes from a huge Fusion Reactor to the south of the station. The transfer grid modulates this power to the rest of the station. Visitors to the zero-gravity sections must pass this way.
Raw Materials: Here is where many of the raw materials are stored, which are used in the construction and maintenance of Babylon 5. Come and see what materials are used, and what special handling is sometimes needed.
Fabrication Centre: The Fabrication Centre provides many of the artefacts used on Babylon 5. Come and see how new materials are fabricated in low- and zero-gravity environments.
Heavy Engineering: The Heavy Engineering section help to construct and maintain the station itself. Different sectors are upgraded and repaired from time to time. The crew here know everything about the Babylon 5 Station.
Rotation Collar: The Carousel and all sectors to the north rotate on maglev bearings to provide simulated gravity. The Rotation Collar provides the drive gear for this. Come here to find out how this works.
Shuttle Maintenance: The fleet of Transfer Shuttles and Atmosphere Shuttles is maintained by the Babylon 5 crew. Come here to find out detailed statistics for these and similar EarthForce ships.
General Maintenance: The Babylon 5 crew will also take on maintenance of other visiting craft from the alien races, if the request comes through appropriate channels.
