When you select one of the found master shapes in the Local results, and drag it onto the page, a copy of the master shape is first added to the Document Stencil. You can drag and drop this master shape from there subsequently, rather than searching for it again.

The search also checks the Keywords of the shapes. For example, searching for the word "Tile" appears to mistakenly match with "Square stone", however, an examination of the Keywords of the master shape reveals that it does contain the word "tile".

Editions of Microsoft Visio that have an online subscription also have the ability to search for shapes in a number of third party stencils hosted by Microsoft. For example, searching for the word "Tile" shows that it is also found in an online stencil, which can then be selected and downloaded. This will download the whole stencil in your My Shapes folder in a sub-folder named after the third-party provider. These stencils, and all of the master shapes within them, are immediately available to use in the current and subsequent sessions. These stencils have been vetted by Microsoft and are safe to use.

Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs) Visio MVPs are Visio experts who freely answer questions and offer solutions, tips, and suggestions, most often in the Visio discussion groups. You can find often stencils of shapes on their web sites.

When you select one of the found master shapes in the Local results, and drag it onto the page, a copy of the master shape is first added to the Document Stencil. You can drag and drop this master shape from there subsequently, rather than searching for it again.

For example, if you enter "office chair" as a search in the Shapes window, the search can be for shapes that are related to both "office" and "chair," or for shapes that are related to either "office" or "chair" (or both).

After you download a stencil of shapes, copy it to your My Shapes folder. By default, your My Shapes folder is located inside your default Documents folder. Then, open the stencil in Visio by navigating to My Shapes.

There are many diagrams and shapes in Visio for the web. To locate a certain diagram or shape, you can search for them. Type in a word or phrase to find diagram names, shapes, or the names, text, and shape data associated with a diagram.

You can search for specific shapes that you want to add to the diagram. For example, you may want to search for specific shapes not in a stencil, such as title boxes, arrows, math, charts, boxes, stars, and symbols.

I've just installed Visio 2013 and can't stand the look of the shapes for systems architecture (servers, workstations, databases, etc). I remember Visio diagrams using 3D shapes with a rounded, colourful look that gave the diagram some personality. The new shapes are accurate, but have all the charm of a cardboard box.

I am using Win10-64bit with 1TB of available SSD memory and all current updates. I have a 35-page Word365 .docx file for testing that contains text on most of the pages, some Word shapes here and there, and one textbox containing a text and shapes object imported from Visio 2019. After importing the Visio object into Word, both its text and shapes look perfect on my monitor. They also look perfect if the document is printed to my HP laser printer, my Epson printer, or a PDF file using either Microsoft PDF or Adobe PDF.

The problem occurs if I append a few more pages of anything to my .docx. Although the Visio import still looks good on the monitor, the Visio shapes (but not the text) are all missing when the .docx is printed to any of the destinations mentioned above. I've used several different Visio imports and text boxes but the results are always the same.

I've got plenty of other .docx files containing Visio imports into text boxes and none of them have this problem. I've tried deleting one page at a time after the page containing the Visio import and eventually as I get closer to the end, the Visio shapes start printing again. It doesn't matter what I put on the extra pages. I've also tried copying the document to another document via copy and paste but the results are the same.

I'm writing script to automate Visio documents using Python. I'm using win32com module and so far, I'm doing good. I learned how to play with shapes , masters and stencil etc.; however, I stuck on the connecting shapes. I searched many forums and discussions but I couldn't get any clear explanation myself.

When I add a stencil to visio, the colour is changes from it's default - even in a new visio document. I have tried playing around with the formet settings but can't seem to fix. In the screenshot below you can see the server goes blue

There are four main styles of Visio shapes in SI 2017: Line, Elevation, Plan, and Schematic. Shapes exist inside of Visio stencils (.vss files). In our Visio interface, a list of the Stencils you have downloaded display in the D-Tools SI 2017 window on the Shapes tab:

SI 2016 shapes take advantage of the Shape Data interface within Visio so we recommend that you choose to display this. Click the View tab and then click the drop down arrow in the Task Panes section and select "Shape Data":

This will display on the right-side of your Visio page and will display all of the available options/settings for the shape(s) selected. You can select multiple similar shapes, e.g. all speaker shapes on a Plan page, and make changes to them all at one time via this interface.

A I really enjoy making architecture diagrams using Visio, I want to share in a few posts some tips to help you do the same.

This post is the second of this series, the previous one introduced the basic tools of Visio to manipulate the shapes. This one is about other tools that will help you to better position your shapes, and have nice perfect straight lines between them.

As an introduction to shape alignment, here is one thing that bugs me in PowerPoint that make unusable to me for architecture diagrams. In the GIF below I simply select one shape then another, and use the Align middle feature to align them on the same horizontal line:

Align middle in PowerPoint style: both shapes moving towards each other

The behavior I expect when doing this is to use the first selected shape as a reference, so that only the second selected shape will move to align with the first one. And you see what PowerPoint does ? It creates a new reference by merging the position of both shapes ?

But back on topic, as far as I know, Visio is the only official tool for which shapes (server, storage, networking, etc) are provided. Maybe there is a FOSS equivalent of Visio that will enable you do generate the required diagrams? Visiocafe is the source of all HP shapes, and it seems to be updated often enough.

For customers using Microsoft Visio for equipment layouts and creating network diagrams, CPI has teamed up with NetZoom, Inc. to create shapes of popular CPI products. These shapes are compatible with Visio versions 5/2000/2002/2003/2007 and available to you free of charge.

To browse and download these free Visio shapes, be sure to visit the Visio shapes page on the CPI website. You will be prompted to save a -zip.aspx file. Zip files are compressed files that require WinZip software to open. Please visit the WinZip Website for more information.

The Reading View of the Office file viewer does display the quiz question shapes, and you can see that there is some Shape Data on each one. The Question Shape Data value, and the hidden Shape Data row that contains the four alternative answers, is displayed as text in the shape so that you can see all of the question clearly over multiple lines.

The problem occurs when I want to use one of the shapes that has two versions of itself in the same shape, e.g. "Route/Switch Processor with and without Si." It has two 'shapes' together built into one shape, and I only want one of the two.
