VR Apps for All Subjects

  • Google Cardboard Camera
  • Google Expeditions is a virtual reality platform built for the classroom. Google worked with teachers and content partners from around the world to create more than 100 engaging journeys — making it easy to immerse students in entirely new experiences. (MAY HAVE ISSUES GETTING THROUGH A SCHOOL’S FIREWALL)
  • Vrse is dedicated to immersing users in stories. Very real, very beautiful stories. Vrse collaborated with The New York Timesfor a handful of pieces, including a 360° walking tour of New York City and a touching 3D story that follows refugees driven from their homes by war. A fantastic download for high school civics/social studies students.
  • NYT VR Not to be outdone, you can jump to The New York Times’ VR page, which houses a few of these pieces, as well as some additional content from the campaign trail and beyond (all in 3D). And yes, they have an app.
  • Google Street View is a swell pairing with Cardboard. Explore the sites found in Street View in 360° photospheres. Very straightforward. Total digital tourism.
  • The Guggenheim Museum VR. This experience includes commentary on the building itself and replicates a walk through the galleries.
  • Smithsonian Latino Virtual Museum. This is an immersive education initiative with bilingual mixed-media experiences created to promote “knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Latino cultural heritage.” The Michigan State University Journalism Department will partner with the museum to develop VR experiences. Students will produce journalistic works, such as animated stories and interactive comics, reflecting the Latino experience.
  • Nearpod VR: Real-world experiences without leaving the classroom. We launched Nearpod VR as a way for teachers to bring real-world experiences from across the globe (and the solar system) into their classrooms to inspire and engage students.
  • Cardboard Design Lab: Enjoy an educational and immersive journey through principles for developing virtual reality experiences. Designing great user experiences in virtual reality is considerably different than designing for traditional 2D form factors. Virtual reality introduces a new set of physiological and ergonomic considerations to inform your design work.
  • Public Speaking VR: The Virtual Speech Google Cardboard app will help you practice for public speaking events and job interviews, by providing photo-realistic virtual reality environments to train in. *formerly know as Public Speaking for Cardboard.

VR Apps for Social Studies

  • King Tut VR: Surrounded by Egyptian art, this audio experience guides you through the virtual tour. Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, during the period of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom.
  • Egyptian Mysteries, an immersive investigation game in the ancient Egypt. Egyptian Mysteries uses the immersive aspect of the Google Cardboard to take you on a trip in the ancient Egypt.
  • VR Cities. This app provides tours of major cities of the world, like Paris and Venice. New cities are being added all the time.
  • ABC News VR. Take a tour, led by an ABC News correspondent, of newsworthy places in the headlines. You can visit Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, get a rare glimpse inside of North Korea or take in New York City during the holidays.
  • Timelooper. This time travel app can take you back to historical events in London, like the Blitz at Trafalgar Square in 1940, or the Great Fire of London 350 years ago. New York City scenes will be available soon.
  • YouVisit. These videos will take you to cities, college campuses, and factories as well as restaurants, hotels and real estate properties. This is a great place to start for high school students who are looking into colleges.

VR Apps for Science

  • Discovery VR is a VR adventure that will let you explore our world with 360° dynamic videos. Excellent use of VR to teach about ecology, conservation, adventure and exploration. We all know that the resolution of 360° videos need to be improved for a great virtual reality experience, but Discovery VR is still a must have for educational apps for the Google Cardboard.
  • Mars is a Real Place is from the developer that brought us Titans of Space. It’s a short slideshow of stereoscopic 3D Martian landscapes that will let you discover more than 50 high-resolution images hand picked. All of the images are stereoscopic and care has been taken to ensure they are all comfortable to view in 3D.
  • Titans of Space is, in our own opinion, the best educational app available for the Google Cardboard. Even with a really simple VR technology like the Cardboard, Titans of Space manages to convey the awesomeness of our universe in an incredible VR experience. This educational experience is definitely one of the best reasons to get a Google Cardboard
  • InMind allows the player to experience the journey into the patient’s brains in search of the neurons that cause mental disorder. Submerge into the microworld and experience the miracles of the human mind.
  • InCell in a unique micro-world, which recreates the anatomy of a human cell in impressive detail, giving it an educational angle, too. Players ride along capillaries and connections as they take in inner space. The depth and scaling of the scenes really makes the experience worthwhile, and it has a rousing soundtrack to boot.
  • Cardio VR allows students to enter a virtual reality doctor’s surgery where you search for your patient’s ailment using x-ray vision. And speaking of vision, navigate your way through the diagnosis using your eyes — just look at the eye icon for help.
    • Cardio is a fun, child-friendly and gender-neutral immersive experience. There is no win or lose, just come and enjoy the surgery.
  • Chemistry VR uses the Cardboard Magnet to move forward and select your chosen chemical elements. All the elements of the Mendeleev table are available.
    • Your goal is to find the required chemical elements to create compounds like water.
  • Random 42 that will let you take a visually stunning and scientifically accurate 3D ride inside the human body. Are you ready to walk next to giants red blood cells in virtual reality?
  • MoleculE VR is a virtual reality app introducing some basic concepts about cell communication. Users can experience how cells receive and respond to messages from their environment, interact with other cells and coordinate their biological processes.
