And others like it. None of them worked however, and my phone would be "unable to connect to the network" with no other error given. I then read about creating a virtual router from within the CMD ( -a-windows-8-1-pc-into-a-wi-fi-hotspot-with-the-com-1593327340) and did the steps mentioned. However when I try to connect, it says that I am inputting the wrong password. It's not user error, as I have tried multiple times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Redid the command several times, changed the network name and password, and even tried using the Virtual Router Manager program and after extensive research I did not get even succeeded in reconfiguring the wifi hotspot on windows 10.

MyPublicWiFi is an easy-to-use software that turns your laptop/tablet/PC into a Wi-Fi wireless access point or Multifunctional Hotspot. Anyone nearby can surf the Internet through your sharing. This is also an ideal solution for setting up a temporary Access Point in a hotel room, meeting room,at home or the like. By enabling user authentication, Customers will be redirected to your login page to authenticate with access password, Voucher Code or accept the Terms Of Use before getting the Internet access. The MyPblicWiFi-Firewall can be used to restrict user access to specific servers. You can also prevent the use of certain Internet services (e.g. file sharing programs) or block the use of social media networks (e.g. Facebook). MyPublicWiFi turn your PC into an Adblock Router. Advertising blocker are an effective way to save your internet bandwidth and protect the privacy of your user. The Bandwidth Manager helps you to control download and upload rate for your hotspot clients. MyPublicWiFi allows you to record and track all visited url pages on your virtual WiFi-Hotspot. Mypublicwifi allows you to set up port forwarding, is available in 19 languages, can be used without a Internet connection and supports the "Hosted Network" and "WiFi Direct for Windows 10/11".

If you need to create a Wi-Fi access point, there's no need to go mad looking for the options in Windows. With programs like Virtual Router converting your PC into a virtual router that allows you to share your Internet signal with other devices is easy.

Now, you may think that turning your PC into a hotspot is hard. But with Virtual Router Manager, it is not. Setting up your PC as a router is surprisingly simple. You only need to open the app and choose the connection you wish to share. After that, you just need to enter a couple of details to properly establish the wireless hotspot. You will also need to provide a name and password for your network. Finally, you have to choose a shared connection so that your linked peers have internet access.

Found a solution. Use an old Windows laptop with Windows 10 (not sure if Windows7 can work). My wifi adapter doesn't support "Hosted Network Supported" so I used NoWIFI app which works out of the box. Now I have a wifi hotspot which have traffic all route thru Malus VPN. So at least other wifi client devices can connect to this wifi if needs Malus VPN.

Virtual Router Plus turns any Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers into hotspots. Virtual Router Plus is a free, open source software based router for PCs running Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. Using Virtual Router Plus, users can wirelessly share any internet connection (Wifi, LAN, Cable Modem, Dial-up, Cellular) with any WiFi device (Laptop, Smart Phone, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android Phone, Zune, Netbook, wireless printer) These devices connect to Virtual Router just like any other access point, and the connection is completely secured using WPA2 (the most secure wireless encryption).Virtual Router Plus is a free, open source software based router for PCs running Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. The physical machine will be connected directly to the colocation service so I will have a specific static IP that I will need to use for the physical machine. I am new to networking like this and I'm having trouble figuring out how to setup either a) the physical machine with routing capability or b) setting up a VM to act as the router. In both cases I will not have the ability to put my own physical router in the location and thus need to be able to route traffic to the VM's using a virtual router.

UPDATE:I'm told by my boss that he wants to keep everything in a windows environment for various reasons of his own. I have read about using a loopback adapter with RRAS as a possible way to solve this? Does anyone know if that might work and if so how?

Using this, all your virtual machines have a private subnet(say, 192.168.34.0/24), Your router is bridged to the World on the physical interface. and has a virtual link to the VM LAN network. Your physical system then has no direct connection using it's physical interface, and an a private address on a virtual link to the VM LAN as well.

Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 lets you configure a NAT using powershell, i would not recommend this in a production environment though. -us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/user-guide/setup-nat-network

This article will look at creating a virtual router in Windows 10 and Windows 11. You will learn how to use your laptop to generate a Wi-Fi hotspot and share your internet connection with other devices.

Turning your laptop or PC into a virtual router can come in very handy, especially when you are in a pinch. Learning how to set up a virtual router in Windows means you no longer have to worry about finding a wireless router when looking to extend the range of your internet signal. You can also easily connect one or more devices to one internet source while traveling.

Hi, need help with my adapter, apparantly it is not compatible with wifi direct Windows 10 IoT Core, that means it does not activate the 'Microsoft WiFi Direct Virtual Adapter' in the device manager. Mobile hotspot does not work, Im trying to make a mini pc into a virtual router. Can anybody help with this?

As you will see, or maybe already know, Ideally you need to connect your PC with ethernet cable to a 1gig router and use it's dedicated 5Ghz wifi as close by as possible. Wifi-only and wifi hotspots do not work well so do not believe everything you see on YouTube. Even the Virtual Desktop developer states that wifi hotspots (esp. ones using a pcie card) are not a good alternative.

The only alternative for reasonable results in your case may be to get yourself a dedicated Router and connect your PC to it and use it's wifi. However, without it being wired to your main router you will not have internet access. There are apparently some high end (and probably expensive) routers that will allow your main router to broadcast to your dedicated router but this requires a bit of know-how to setup.

My computer has a wifi 6 card it allows me to do bridged connection to a device. but i just connect to a wifi 6 to a standard wifi 6 router "as if its wired" and i get decent results. 1200 mbps and about 30ish ms of lag.

If you were about to spend money anyway, buy a router. Skip all the network card stuff, all the hotspot, a simple router is all you need. mine cost me like 40$USD it is wifi6 nothing fancy, and i am VD user, it has been rock solid for the past 2 years, like rock solid!. I dont want to say the model i am using here but PM is welcomed.

So essentially, connect your pc to the router you bought via cable, and bridge the wifi your house sends out, try to set a new wifi off your new router and name it differently and only use 5G band (important). And thats it. for me i use powerline to connect to the home router wiredly. It is hassle free, always works, and now i even have my small LAN i can use among all my devices.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that but using the Win8 machine as a proxy to the iot device seems like a better way to get around my wireshark/network issue. Haven't tried either yet, but Connectify's Hotspot or Codeplex's Virtual-Router/Plus might have this functionality built-in.. i.e. win8 software that creates a wifi hotspot, and bridges it to another wifi network.

Haven't had much luck getting it to work.. I've got the the iot connected to the laptop's wifi nic, and the laptop connected via wire to the router. I've tried Connectify Hotspot, Virtual Router/Plus, mhotspot, and mypublicwifi, yet in all cases, the iot is connecting to the internet, meaning the hotspot works, yet Wireshark doesn't see that wifi traffic. I'm guessing that's because the briding is done in the software/driver like you warned. How would you recommend to create a non-software driver based wifi proxy? ff782bc1db
