During this assignment we were tasked with is to describe the impact of social media on society and amongst ourselves. We had to include descriptions of our results among several subjects such as social media addiction and tools that relate to society within social media.
When I took the quiz to see my level of addiction when applied to Social Media it said fairly reliant. This answer doesn't really surprise me as it makes sense with the daily amount that I use. I thought that the questions were reasonable and realistic to real life scenarios and it produces a reliable result.
While in the beginning when social media was new and seen as a way for people to connect, I now think it's harming society. Now that most people always have a digital device with them at all times there have been cases where people absent-mindedly ignored someone who was talking to them. Other examples can be those who find that texting and driving is more important than paying attention to the road or others around them. I do believe that social media should still exist and has good qualities, but with how it's being used may actual cause more harm than good.
Gramlich, J. (2024, March 6). Germans stand out for their comparatively light use of social media. Pew Research Center. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/03/06/germans-stand-out-for-their-comparatively-light-use-of-social-media/
In this article, I learned how Germans have a significant usage of social media compared to other European countries. For example, where the highest amount of social media used is 93%, Germany is at 51%. There isn't a particular reason why I chose Germany as my research article, it just caught my eye while looking for an article.
During this assignment, I learned that I have a more negative view of social media than I originally thought, despite my using it for basically all social interaction. I was surprised to see that Germany has a low social media rate when compared to nearby countries; especially since it's a first-world country.
