Virgínia Fernandes Mota
Professor of Informatics Department
COLTEC - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
Virginia Fernandes Mota is a professor at the Informatics Department of COLTEC-Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. She has a Ph.D. in Computer Science at UFMG (2018). She is currently a researcher in the Digital Image Processing Group (NPDI) and in the Pattern Recognition and Earth Observation (PATREO) group. She holds a MSc Degree in Computer Science (2011) at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Brazil, and a Master in Systèmes Intelligents et Communicants (2010) at École Nationale Supérieure de l'Electronique et de ses Applications, France. She also holds BSc Degree in Computer Science (2008) at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Brazil.
NPDI was created in January 1990, shortly after the transfer of Professor Arnaldo de Albuquerque from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Paraíba to the department of computer science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. From the beginning, NPDI always sought to interact with other institutions, developed applied research and sought solutions and methodologies for the problems of its partners, among them, we can mention: UFMG, CECOR, Pathological Anatomy, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacology, Geosciences, and Regionally, CDTN / CNEN, CETEC, FUNED, APM, PRODEMGE, SSP / MG.
The Pattern Recognition and Earth Observation (PATREO) group is interested in researching and developing new Machine Learning and Image Processing techniques. The main research applications are very related, but not restricted, to the Earth Observation issues, which include remote sensing, agriculture, ecology, and other related fields.
