Vira Pakosh
(multidisciplinary artist)
Born in 2003 in Lviv.
In my creative practice, I use a variety of mediums: from painting and drawing to various textile techniques, silk-screen printing, from installation to photography, video and performance.
I experiment and trust the process, which is sometimes more important than the result.
Education:
Lviv National Academy of Arts (2020-2024) (Faculty of Monumental Painting);
Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (2022- )..
In general, in my practice I work with the subconscious, perception and reaction.
I can describe my process as a kind of research that starts from the inside, but at the end goes much further and (hopefully) reaches areas that I hadn't even consciously thought about.
Less than two weeks after the start of the full-scale invasion, I went to Warsaw to finish my semester (I was in my 2nd year of painting at the time) at the Academy of Arts there. The opportunity to continue my creative development was the main argument for me, as my plans never included moving from Lviv, at least not at that time in my life. The next year I was enrolled in the Warsaw Academy, and as a result, my life turned into a life oт two cities, two countries, constant movement, migration.
Since April 2022, I have been working with the theme of "movement". Is it possible to capture it, to convey this feeling with a static tool (drawing)? I have been asking myself these and other questions since then.
A part of this project called "Plasticity of movement" was first presented at the group exhibition "Subjectivity. Perception. Society." (21-29.12.2023). In addition to the pure fixation of the seen it is about the subconscious manipulation of reality, manipulation of manipulation, and so on (I call it the "principle of memories"), the study of the sequence of its perception by a person.
In addition, like every person from Ukraine who went abroad at some point during the full-scale invasion, I had feelings of guilt and helplessness at the same time, which are reflected in the works “RozwalonyJ” (installation, textile), “Шукай”, “Ne” and other paintings from 2022. However, the most ambitious project considering elaborating is "Hiding", where I use the form of a triangle to work on the ambiguity of the concepts of security and threat/danger.
Another offshoot in my work is the issue of the internal limitations and conservatism of the art world/community (my first solo exhibition "Content In A Transparent Box" at the Goethe Intitut Krakau).
