Sourish Ghosh established his lab at CSIR-IICB, Kolkata, in 2022 with a unique perspective: "Viruses are the best cell biologists—they modulate numerous host functions and lead us to discover new metabolic pathways."
Sourish earned his PhD in 2016 from the National Brain Research Centre, Manesar, under the mentorship of Dr. Anirban Basu. His doctoral research focused on uncovering the pathways that lead to neurodegeneration following infection by Chandipura Virus, a member of the Rhabdoviridae family.
In November 2016, he embarked on a postdoctoral fellowship under Dr. Nihal Altan-Bonnet at the NHLBI, NIH in Bethesda, USA. There, he investigated viral egress pathways and transmission modes in Rotavirus, Norovirus, and SARS-CoV-2.
Recognized for his contributions, Sourish was awarded the prestigious DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance Intermediate Fellowship. Beyond the lab, he is an avid movie enthusiast and enjoys long drives, finding inspiration in the world around him.
