Vinton High School Student Council
Honor Cord Requirements
The purpose of this program is to create an incentive for Student Council members to actively participate in the Student Government Association and to recognize their hard work and dedication to Student Council. Honor cords are given to Student Council members to award those students who will render their service through VHS Student Council.
In order to be eligible to receive a Student Council honor cord a member must meet all requirements:
1. To receive a Student Government honor cord, a student must be in good standing with the Student Council of Vinton High School.
2. To receive a Student Council honor cord a student must have at least two (2) years of service as a Representative or Officer of the Student Council of Vinton High School.
a. Seniors with only one (1) year of service on Student Council may receive an honor cord, if they have demonstrated outstanding service.
b. The Advisors of Student Council will do an evaluation for the senior with one (1) year of service.
3. A Student Council member must have a minimum of thirty (30) hours served through Student Council projects in those two (2) years.
a. Hours may be earned at the following but are not limited to:
i. Freshman Orientation, Pep Rallies, Homecoming Week, LASC Convention and/or Workshop, Philanthropy and Fundraising events, Teacher/Staff helper, etc.
4. Seniors who are not on Student Council their senior year, but who have served at least two (2) years during their high school career, who were in good standing and have their 30 hours of service will also be eligible to receive an honor cord.
5. A member must not have excessive absences from Student Council meetings or school unexcused absences to be eligible to receive an honor cord.
a. School unexcused absences are defined in the Student/Parent Handbook.
b. Student Council unexcused absences are defined in the Vinton High School Constitution and By-Laws
6. A Student Council members must have a 2.5 un-weighted cumulative GPA to receive a Student Council Honor Cord.
In order to receive your graduation honor cord, you must have the following paperwork completed and turned into Mrs. Andrepont by May 2, 2022.
